    Consular Assistant

    About The Job

    Job Summary

    • The U. S. Mission in Accra, Ghana is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Consular Assistant. The work schedule for this position is Full time 40 hours per week.

    Duties:

    • The Consular Assistant supports the daily operations of the Consular Section's American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit. 
    • He or she performs routine services: responds to in person, telephone and email inquiries; intakes and processes U.S. passports, reports of birth/death abroad, notary services; disburses federal benefits checks and solves related problems. 
    • He/she also performs special citizen services: assists U.S. citizens with death cases, arrests, hospitalizations, destitutions, repatriations, children's issues, missing persons, victims of crime, internet fraud, and other, handling each such case from start to finish, seeking officer's guidance as needed

    Qualifications and Evaluations
    Requirements & Experience:

    • At least Three (3) years of administrative/ government/para-professional experience, including customer service, is required.

    Job Knowledge:  

    • Knowledge of regulations and U.S. law governing citizen services. 
    • Basic knowledge of Consular operations, citizenship services and unit workflow. 
    • Basic knowledge of Ghanaian civil and customary laws relating to marriage, divorce and adoption. 
    • Basic knowledge of Ghanaian documents such as passports, other forms of official identification, school, civil and religious documents. 
    • Basic knowledge of Ghanaian documents such as passports, other forms of official identification, school, civil and religious documents. 
    • Basic knowledge of Ghanaian immigration and law enforcement.

    Education Requirements:

    • Mandatory:
      • Completion of 2 years of university studies is required.

    Evaluations

    • Language:  
      • Mandatory: Fluency in English; written/spoken, including the ability to translate (This may be tested). 
      • Proficiency in Twi and preferably one other local language (Ga, Ewe or Fanti) is required.

    Skills & Abilities:

    • Excellent interviewing, analytical and writing skills. Excellent inter-personal and problem solving skills. 
    • Must be able to work under pressure. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
