Job Summary

• To support the work of students and teachers in the laboratory by providing technical support, preparation of experiments and ensuring the right materials and equipment are procured and used in carrying out experiments. In addition, providing support for students in their research essay is a key element of the role. 

Responsibilities

• Providing assistance to teachers in classes and laboratory sessions as well as technical advice to students.
• Providing assistance to teachers and students in the form of preparation of solutions, standardization of solutions.
• Working with individual students on their research project (individual investigation and extended essay).
• Ensuring that health and safety protocols are followed in the laboratory at all times.
• Explaining and demonstrating the use of equipment to students.
• Setting up laboratory equipment and reagents prior to practical
• Maintaining a laboratory inventory, ensure proper storage of equipment and preparing requisite orders for new materials and equipment.
• Running trials of experiments before classes.
• Ensuring the maintenance of laboratory equipment before and after use in experiments.
• Ensuring laboratory is safe for students.
• Conducting routine checks on equipment to rectify or replace malfunctioning part and notify HOD as to which equipment are due for servicing
• Accompanying students on field trips.
• Receiving science equipment and reagent and store them in their required condition and issue them out as and when needed
• Ensuring that laboratory is locked when there is no teacher or laboratory technician in the laboratory. 

Requirements

• Minimum HND in Laboratory Technology
• Minimum of two years work experience in a physics laboratory.
• Strong communication, analytical and research skills as well as a strong scientific and technical knowledge
• A strong passion for working with students (particularly in regard to conducting research on aspects of their work to give them relevant advice)
