    Plant Manager Africa

    About the role

    • We are excited to announce that we are inviting applications for the role of Plant Supervisor.
    • This expat role will be based onsite at the Tabiast Mine, and will operate on a 6weeks on, 3 weeks off, FIFO roster from most locations across the world. 
    • Reporting to the overall Orica Site Manager, the Plant Manager will be responsible for the safe and efficient production and distribution of chemical explosives which are used in our daily blasting operations on the site. Additionally, the Plant Supervisor is responsible for leading and motivating a local team of plant operators, assistants and maintenance teams, ensuring a safe, harmonious, productive, and settled workforce operation. 


    What you will be doing

    • Ensure site safety management systems, including operating procedures, security and emergency plans, are reviewed and adhered to; 
    • Take accountability for ensuring that daily, weekly, monthly and annual production targets are being met and surpassed;
    • Ensure plant operations are managed safely, with appropriate risk management techniques being consistently utilised. This includes rigorous application of the Hazard Study process;
    • Lead, coach, train, motivate and manage a talented team of 10+ plant operations and maintenance employees;
    • Act as the face of Orica for the area by interacting with customer, local legislative and government bodies ensuring that all necessary plant requirements are met;  
    • Ensure that reliability of all assets are maintained at an appropriately high level, by ensuring effective maintenance systems and resources in place. 


    What you will bring

    • A minimum of 5 years experience in a plant operational leadership roles in the manufacturing or mining industry; 
    • Exposure to a similar expat plant operational leadership role is highly advantageous;
    • Tertiary qualifications in mechanical, electrical, chemical or related engineering discipline are advantageous;
    • Excellent English and French language communication skills both verbal and written; 
    • Sound influencing and relationship management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a harmonious and happy team; 
    • Sound ability to effectively manage costs and budgets; 
    • Demonstrated ability to develop & implement improvement initiatives, including business improvement projects; 
    • Ability to obtain working rights to Mauritania.
