    Backfill Engineer

    We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Backfill Engineer.

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    To implement, monitor and co-ordinate the backfill requirements for the mine in line with the established mine plan.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Establish the necessary Backfill Engineering processes and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, including Operational Readiness
    • Provide unequivocal Backfill Engineering planning data to enable the monthly updates of the rolling quarterly plan to be produced on time.
    • Develop the quarterly Backfill Engineering cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual business plans
    • Deliver the work of the Backfill Engineering function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs
    • Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the Backfill Engineering Section regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development
    • Rigorously drive implementation of projects and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the Backfill Engineering team
    • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • BSc. Mining / Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent

    Experience 

    • Three (3) years' operational experience within an underground mining environment of which at least two (2) years is backfill systems based;
    • Demonstrated experience with knowledge of fundamental underground backfill mechanics;
    • Proficient in the use of Mining Software;
    • Proficient in the management and control of underground backfill operations across a range of fill types;
    • Excellent Communication Skills.

    Technical Competencies

    • Safety (Advanced Application)
      • Can identify and interpret safety risks and resolve emerging issues; and ensuring that appropriate focus and resources are available to achieve safety objectives.
      • Active participant in ensuring critical controls are in place and working.
    • Mining Production Processes & Practices (Basic Application)
      • Understands the mining processes and actively contributes in part to delivery of the expected outcome / service the mining processes deliver.
      • Has demonstrated the ability to apply technical skills and/or delivery of a service within one or more of the mining processes with minimal supervision.
      • Can identify potential problems and propose solutions for higher approval.
      • Directly responsible for delivering a production aspect of the plan.
      • Understands good underground production practices, management, support systems, and how each should interact to deliver targeted performance.
    • Operational Management (Basic Application)
      • Understands the AGA system of ‘how we work’ and applies the basic elements.
      • Capable of managing and supervising small teams.
      • Able to provide performance assessments on others to their direct manager.

    Senior Backfill Engineer

    We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Senior Backfill Engineer.

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    To manage and co-ordinate the backfill requirements for the mine in line with the established mine plan.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
    • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
    • Prepare sectional annual cost centre budget
    • Act on all corrective actions assigned to him/her or under his/her jurisdiction and ensure timely completion
    • Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his/her representative
    • Develop the Backfill Engineering team recruitment specifically driving the localisation aims of the mine.
    • Map key internal stakeholder relationships and value with relevant management routines (communication, touchpoints, key meetings)
    • Prepare Backfill Engineering data aligned to defined quality assurance expectations
    • Ensure timely assessments of Backfill Engineering processes data
    • Report on costs controls and any deviations or constraints which may impact on planned outcomes
    • Implement approved work programmes and report on the attainment of plan
    • Apply controls to manage identified risks.
    • Ensure workplace monitoring and compliance with work standards of field personnel and contractors
    • Recommend and optimise the approach for conducting specialist projects and research in the Backfill Engineering process and procedures
    • Establish a network of targeted stakeholder relationships to socialise initiatives and enhancements
    • Report on the development and progress of initiatives and enhancements of the Backfill Engineering function, to include outputs and benefits obtained.
    • Describe the specific problems and constraints to be managed within the Backfill Engineering function

    IT Field Support Engineer - Infrastructure & Application Systems

    Role Purpose

    The purpose of this role is to manage AAIL suite of computer applications to ensure that users can effectively utilize packages and in-house developed solutions.  Again, to assist the infrastructure role to manage all in-house infrastructure tasks

    Role Accountabilities

    • Manage all programming requirements and ensure that modifications or new developments are well planned and designed.
    • Follow documented change management controls and procedures.
    • Ensure all systems requirements for applications are undertaken.
    • Be fully conversant with all applications such that user requirements can be understood and acted on.
    • Specify, design, develop, implement, and review in-house software requirements.
    • Ensure applications developed in-house are flexible enough to cope with future requirements.
    • Assist users in the configuration and set-up of applications.
    • Provide accurate and timeous reports as requested by users
    • Assist to manage the AAIL Intranet and SharePoint systems.
    • Manage all logical access to application systems, databases, and associated schemas to allow secure, efficient, and effective access to the required organization’s structured data.
    • Monitor database performance and apply necessary tuning requirements.
    • Review and monitor system and instance resources to ensure continuous database operations.
    • Develop and maintain understanding of workflows and business needs to support the business.

    Person Specifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other related Engineering field from a reputable institution
    • Basic Level networking certification preferred (i.e., CCNA, or Network+)
    • ITIL Fundamentals will be an added advantage

    Experience

    • Minimum of one (1) year post qualification experience in software development and support or a similar role within the mining industry

    Technical Competencies

    • Knowledge and experience in web design
    • Working Knowledge in Microsoft SharePoint administration, Workflows, PowerApps, Power Automate and Office 365 in general
    • Web and Desktop software support
    • Database Administration (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL)
    • Programming Languages (C#, VB, PHP)
    • Scripting Languages (css, html, asp.net, JavaScript)
    • Strong working experience with Reporting Tools such as Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, and Microsoft Access
    • Conversant with device programming such as (Cisco switches, Access points, wireless controllers, and IP telephony)
    • Knowledge of standards and backup technologies such as Veeam Backup software etc.
    • Experience in system analysis, design and programmingWell-developed oral and written communication skills
    • Medical fitness for the position and environment
    • A valid Ghanaian drivers’ license and proficiency in driving light vehicles
