    Mechanical Technician - Material Handling.

    We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Mechanical Technician - Material Handling.

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    The Mechanical Technician - Material Handling is accountable for executing all tasked maintenance work on underground/Surface conveyor systems (shift -3, regular-3), safely, in accordance with other compliance requirements, operational and standards, systems and procedures to maximise plant availability in a compliant, safe, sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety
    • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
    • Gather information for the Materials Handling Supervisor for reporting performance
    • Execute all tasked maintenance work on underground/surface conveyor systems (shift -3, regular-3) ? Identify actions for continuous improvement and that compliant operability to requirements is ensured
    • Organise and report information for the Materials Handling Supervisor to allow development of condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment;
    • Execute designated and tasked daily work checks on a routine scheduled basis.
    • Report any anomalies to Materials Handling Supervisor for the generation of work requests in SAP as required for maintenance planning and scheduling
    • Carry out daily pre-start and/or shift handover checks and complete check sheets as required according to the established schedules and also per plant requirements.
    • Execute daily pre-start checks of equipment/tools prior to leaving workshop. Escalate and report any anomalies
    • Assess all equipment required for completion of the tasked work, create checklist and transport all tools necessary for task completion
    • Complete shift short interval control sheets as required
    • Monitor operating parameters in accordance with standards provided and take corrective action as indicated or required
    • Identify, communicate, and escalate potential cost reduction initiatives to the Supervisor
    • Propose cost savings projects
    • Execute work in a timely manner; escalate real or potential delays to the Supervisor
    • Log monitored equipment performance for entry in asset health system and take proactive measures to register and escalate symptoms of potential failure to Materials Handling Supervisor
    • Stop equipment from working if there exists a high risk or unsafe to be used and report to Materials Handling Supervisor

    Qualification

    • Secondary/Technical Education
    • Completed mechanical apprenticeship from recognized scheme – example City and Guilds, National Vocation Level 1

    Experience

    • An experienced mechanical tradesperson with 5+ years’ experience in underground mining (Preferably on Material Handling Systems)
    • Inspecting/Operating Certificate of Competency from Mincom will be an added advantage.

    • Sound project management skills
    • Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.

    Mechanical Supervisor - Winders

    We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Mechanical Supervisor - Winders.

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    The Mechanical Supervisor – Winders is accountable for the monitoring and control of output of winder refurbishment to standard, through the application of operational policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximize plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective. Later the accountability will transfer to monitoring and control of standards of maintenance work.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety
    • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
    • Gather information for the Maintenance Manager - Underground for reporting performance
    • Conduct periodic audits of all Winding equipment during refurbishment, later maintenance
    • Conduct reviews of the refurbishment, later maintenance, of the Winding equipment to identify actions for continuous improvement
    • Propose to the Maintenance Manager – Underground to develop condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment;
    • Execute control of refurbishment, later maintenance, work to standard by checks on a routine scheduled basis. This include visual checks, vibration data collection, infrared data collection, ultrasonic data collection, motor current and flux data collection, simple NDT data collection;
    • Analyze and trend predictive maintenance data (vibration, IR, etc.) to determine plant condition and report this condition for action;
    • Monitor general physical condition of plant assets and report
    • Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary;
    • Generate work requests in SAP as required for refurbishment/maintenance planning and scheduling
    • Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all the rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to the established schedules and also as per the plant requirements.
    • Gather information on vibration & other data collected in order to diagnose/ troubleshoot rotating machinery problems.
    • Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause
    • Failure Analysis process of mechanical equipment as per requirements
    • Identify, communicate, and implement potential cost reduction initiatives
    • Execute work in a timely manner; coordinate refurbishment work contractor controls to time plan, escalate real or potential delays
    • Monitor equipment performance on asset health system and take proactive measures to address symptoms of potential failure.
    • Report directly to the Maintenance Manager - Underground on issues and identify and execute improvement projects
    • Stop equipment from working if there exists a high risk or unsafe to be used

    Qualification

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Maintenance Management, or equivalent

    Experience

    • An experienced winding equipment maintenance Supervisor with over 10 years’ experience in mine maintenance
    • Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)
    • Experience in Project Management
    • Knowledge of SAP PM module

    Legal Requirements

    • Must possess Supervisory Certificate of Competence from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
    • Professional Certificated Supervisor with a relevant certification body

    Winder Engineer - Electrical.

    We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Winder Engineer - Electrical.

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    The Winder Engineer is accountable for monitoring and control of quality of maintenance of winding equipment to ensure it is compliant, safe, in accordance with operational and engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximize plant availability in a compliant, safe, sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Application review of safety standards and work practices for the refurbishment construction and infrastructure workforce to enable the safety targets to be managed and achieved.
    • Application of HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.
    • Safety behaviour demonstration consistent with AGAG’s vision and values.
    • Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
    • Continuous improvement of design and field safety performance.
    • Inspections, audits, JHA, etc. of the Safety Management System delivering compliance
    • Timely investigation of all injuries, illness, and incidents with actions plans developed to prevent recurrences
    • Ensure monitoring and data collection to demonstrate execution of the surface infrastructure aspects of construction, refurbishment and maintenance activities in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site’s Environmental Management Plan
    • Environmental-related workplace instruction to any employees

    • Investigate process interruptions using ‘Analyse and Improve’ tools
    • Underground Maintenance team processes required to support the role holder in executing the project

    • Recruit and appoint people to role in accordance with AGA policy and localization objectives as directed by the Senior Mining Manager and Deputy Engineering Manager
    • For those AGAG employees who will be part of the continuing operation, prepare and execute training and development plans.
    • Ensure the organization structure is capable of delivering the electrical maintenance strategy
    • Communicate policies and procedures in a manner so as to achieve full understanding and compliance
    • Provide guidance to subordinates in leadership techniques to achieve maximum performance

    • Identify skill deficiencies and initiate corrective action
    • For the electrical aspects of following winding work activities, ensure the processes are in place for timely completion of works on: Winding infrastructure equipment by the provision of
      • Electrical subject matter input into the design and constructability process, ensuring safe constructability remains a high priority
      • Electrical advice and guidance to the refurbishment project team on best practice, fit for purpose engineering and construction outcomes to meet approved design specifications
    • Review, approval and sign off of the winding infrastructure items detailed in the Refurbishment Execution Plan and schedule, infrastructure detailed design requirements, detailed testing plans, operational commissioning plans, handover plans, training plans, manuals, records, drawings, specifications and documents issued.
    • Deliver winding requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy, which address the construction time, cost and quality risks.
    • Monitor internal processes that support management of the interface with the EPCM contractor for construction and refurbishment works.
    • Monitor the development of maintenance planning and management outcomes in winding
    • Comply with reporting processes for managing winding equipment installation and refurbishment contractor and the AGAG maintenance workforce to deliver works that meet cost, schedule and quality expectations consistent with the scope and quality contained in the Feasibility Study within area of accountability.
    • Proactively control the refurbishment process to avoid potential project cost and schedule overruns.
    • Control winding refurbishment priorities within a dynamic environment, whilst maintaining safety, budget, schedule and quality targets.
    • Communicate accurate and timely construction schedule delivery, progress, cost and quality information in the area of accountability
    • Design and put in place reporting structure to provide major inputs to Maintenance Manager - UG to allow reporting of Operational Readiness for the winding operations.
    • Monitor the compliant completion of the winding aspects of the Operational Readiness plan for the mining teams including localisation plan.
    • Engage and develop appropriately skilled, capable and experienced personnel in the area of accountability.
    • Use the systems for the winding department to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement.
    • Verify the standard of work of the maintenance of the winding equipment during the Phase1 & 2 Operations.
    • Monitor and ensure the work carried out by the underground maintenance team on the winding equipment is of a standard that is compliant, supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost
    • Identify sub-standard work practices, identify root cause and eliminate by corrective action.
    • Task subordinates in line with achieving the agreed production plan
    • Work with the team of engineers to specify, design, analyze and verify new components and systems.
    • Implement corporate programs, e.g. asset management strategies, System for People, Operational Effectiveness, etc across areas of control.
    • Deploy management routines to identify defects in the workplace

    Qualification

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
    • Masters’ Degree in Management will be an advantage
    • Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses

    Experience

    • An experienced Winder Operations Manager/Engineer with over 10 years’ experience in underground mining
    • Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)
    • Experience in Project Management
    • Knowledge of SAP PM module

    Legal Requirements

    • Must possess Engineering Managers Certificate of Competence from Mineral Commission of Ghana Or Winder
    • Operations Engineer Certificate or Similar – issued by the Government of Ghana or an international certificate valid in Ghana.

    We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Senior Winder Engine Driver.

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    The Senior Winder Engine Driver is accountable for coordinating the work schedules, training, monitoring and control of quality of work of winder drivers to ensure the operation is at all times fully compliant with LI2182, safe, in accordance with other compliance requirements, operational and Engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximise plant availability in a compliant, safe, sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • The role holder is accountable for training personnel to obtain and maintain a winding engine driver's certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines in accordance with LI2182, (Reg 450).
    • The role holder is accountable for the skills matrix including Medical fitness in accordance with LI2182, (Reg 451).
    • The role holder is accountable for coordinating the Winder Drivers work, the monitoring of work  and reporting deficiencies, of all recording of operations and reporting required of Winder Drivers under LI2182 (especially Reg 452-458).
    • Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
    • Continuous improvement of design and field safety performance.
    • Inspections, audits, JHA, etc. of the Safety Management System delivering compliance.

    • Investigate process interruptions using ‘Analyse and Improve’ tools.
    • Monitor Shaft maintenance team processes that support in the execution of the role.
    • Using AGA’s How we Work guidelines, clearly define the roles and accountabilities of subordinates.
    • Ensure the organisation structure is capable of delivering the required operatives fulfilling the strategic requirements at recommencement of operations.
    • Communicate policies and procedures in a manner so as to achieve full understanding and compliance.

    • Complete and keep up-to-date the skills matrix that includes all disciplines and individual achievements.
    • Develop an appropriate succession plan for key positions with the correct supportive development plan.
    • For the compliance of shaft maintenance, execute for timely completion of training on working and carrying out.
    • Statutory Inspections of Shafts, Transporting and Slinging of Materials and all other shaft related Jobs in accordance with LI2182.
    • Design and put in place reporting structure to provide major inputs to Maintenance Manager - UG to allow reporting of Operational Readiness for the winding operations.
    • Monitor the compliant completion of the winding aspects of the Operational Readiness plan for the mining teams including localisation plan.
    • Engage and develop appropriately skilled, capable and experienced personnel in the area of accountability.
    • Use the systems for the winding department to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement.
    • Verify and report the standard of training of the winder drivers during the Phase1 & 2 Operations.
    • Monitor and ensure the driver training carried is of a standard that is compliant, supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost.

    • Establish good rapport with the other departments to ensure common goals are identified and reached.
    • Provide technical expertise input in the development of a 2-year plan for winding activities:
      • Ensure statutory and corporate compliance.
      • dentify trends in winding equipment and safe operation to support performance.
      • Monitor failure root cause analysis.
      • dentify and consider the applicability of new technology and products.
      • Monitor the stage of the life cycle costing of key equipment with consideration to changing operational parameters.
      • Evaluate the cost of changing operational parameters.
    • Control delivery of winder driver training to the approved budget whilst proposing solutions to adapt to unforeseen circumstances and identify and discuss opportunities to exceed annual budget and action authorised changes.
    • Utilising SAP, record winder driver training, certification and skills matrix required for submission to the General Manager, an annual master schedule of work packages for the Maintenance Department ahead of the business planning process.
      • A rolling three-month schedule of training and certification packages including 80% of scheduled work allowing for unplanned work.
      • On a monthly basis manage the compilation of data to report significant variations or critical issues that may impact on the Operating Master Schedule along with corrective actions to mitigate risk.
    • Verify that the driver training aspects of winder refurbishment remain within the approved project schedule, achieving all critical intermediate milestones.
    • Developing the risk and risk mitigation plans and activities for all winder training work.
    • Develop the plan to ensure winder competence and availability is developed in line with the Obuasi Operations expected life of mine.
    • Maintain meeting records, agreed actions, and follow up to ensure relevant actions are completed.
    • Weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting, produce accurate and timely information that can clearly convey the status of training, compliance, safety, cost, schedule and quality for the winder driver training/qualification
    • Advise progress and KPI status in a timely manner to the management team, particularly potential cost, and schedule or quality variances.
    • Review and provide feedback regarding contractor’s progress claims (if used).
    • Continuously identify and collate opportunities to improve cost, schedule, quality and safety outcomes in the area of accountability.
    • Plan driver training to provide sufficient qualified personnel during refurbishment to ensure operation of plant and equipment in the area of accountability to support the commissioning process.
    • Inspect all refurbishment works to ensure drivers can deliver in accordance with requirements and expectations.
    • Oversee training regime to ensure quality and or performance is in line with obligations and expectations.
    • Proactively identify and manage change to avoid potential cost, schedule and quality issues.

    Qualification

    • Winder Trainer Certification to permit training of Winder Drivers under LI2182
    • Winding engine driver's certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines in accordance with LI2182
    • Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent 

    Experience

    • An experienced Winder Operations Specialist/Trainer with over 10 years’ experience in underground mining
    • Experience of training winder drivers from scratch to compliant certification
    • Knowledge of SAP Skills module.

    Legal Requirements

    • Must possess Sectional Engineer’s Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
    • Winding engine driver's certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines in accordance with LI2182.
