    Engineering Manager-Electrical and Instrumentation

    About The Job
    Role Purpose And Context

    • The Engineering Manager – Electrical and Instrumentation is accountable for the development and implementation of site wide electrical, controls, instrumentation and communication systems and maintenance through the application of operational engineering policies, standards, systems, and procedures to maximise plant/infrastructure availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks to meet the business’ strategic objective.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Drive sound principles of Health and Safety in line with AngloGold Ashanti’s standards and procedures.
    • Deliver the Safety Management plan elements 
    • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.
    • Provide technical input to the safety management plan for the construction and refurbishment works, consistent with AGA's Integrated Management System and Standards.
    • Set and commit to the achievement of equipment and plant availability and performance targets.
    • Develop and implement effective engineering standards and procedures in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements.
    • Assist in delivering engineering services to meet the standards and requirements of relevant governmental agencies.
    • Achieve optimal electrical, controls, instrumentation and communication system operational efficiency through development and maintenance.
    • Communicate job expectations, monitoring and reviews job contributions, plans and actions, and enforces staff policies and procedures.
    • Optimize engineering performance by contributing engineering recommendations to strategic planning and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standard goals; resolving engineering issues; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; and implementing change.
    • Meet departmental financial objectives by forecasting requirements and challenges, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
    • Develop strategic electrical and instrumentation plans by studying operational plans and existing conditions, determining needs to accomplish operational plans, mapping solutions, updating, and modifying requirements and solutions, and preparing cost estimates and budgets.
    • Plan electrical, controls, instrumentation and communication projects by determining specifications, selecting contractors, establishing installation schedules, planning shut downs and installations, integrating architectural and mechanical design specifications, verifying code requirements, and updating cost estimates.
    • Maintain electrical, controls, instrumentation and communication systems by establishing and enforcing ongoing maintenance schedules and procedures and testing programs, scheduling repairs, coordinating shutdowns and installations. 
    • Accomplish engineering and organization mission by collaborating with other members of senior management.
    • Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships. 
    • Drive operational cost control and maintain expenditure within approved budgets. 
    • Develop the skills and competencies of direct reports to ensure a pipeline of talent required to deliver the business objectives.
    • Provide training to employees on proper maintenance procedures for machinery and equipment.
    • Engage and develop appropriately skilled, capable, and experienced personnel.
    • Advise progress and KPI status in a timely manner to the management team, particularly potential cost, and schedule or quality variances.
    • Monitor the supply, availability and condition of parts, inventory, general and specific consumables and Rotable equipment required to provide assured sustainable operation of the mining operation.
    • Review, approve, and sign off the detailed new build and Refurbishment Execution Plan and schedule, infrastructure detailed design requirements, detailed testing plans, operational commissioning plans, handover plans, training plans, manuals, records, drawings, specifications, and documents issued.
    • Ensure delivering infrastructure requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy addresses construction time, cost, and quality risks.
    • Liaise with the colleague Managers to develop maintenance planning and strategies. 
    • Manage new build/refurbishment and installation.
    • Manage contractor and AGAG maintenance workforce to deliver works that meet cost, schedule, and quality expectations.
    • Set the standards so that process control and operational technology work carried out by the engineering and maintenance team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost.
    • Prepare the sectional budget that supports the company’s objectives and strategy.
    • Ensure cost impacts in accountability are evaluated, approved, and budget is revised. 
    • Comply with Relevant legislation, Applicable codes, best practice, Industry and AGA standards, AGA Quality systems, policies, procedures, processes and Internal project requirements

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Qualification:

    • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering
    • Masters’ Degree in Management will be an advantage.

    Experience :

    • An experienced Electrical and Electronics/CIC engineer with 10+ years’ relevant experience in Surface and Underground Infrastructure, Fixed Plants/ Infrastructure maintenance
    • Working knowledge in Modern Control Systems and Automation
    • Experience in Energy Management 
    • Experience in Power Supply and Purchase Agreement
    • Working knowledge in Energy and Power Supply Sector in Ghana and West Africa
    • Working knowledge in Power Plant and Modern Controls
    • Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)
    • Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses.
    • Knowledge of SAP PM module
    • Must possess Engineering Manager’s Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
    • Professional Certificated Engineer with a relevant certification body. 

    Legal Requirement:

    • Must possess Engineering Managers Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
    • Professional Certificated Engineer from GhIE (As stated in Ghana Engineering Council Act 2011, Act 819).

    Technical Competencies:

    • Sound project management skills 
    • Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems. 
    • Detail oriented to understand complex systems, and recognition that a minor error can cause major problems.
    • Commercially astute and able to work effectively with third parties. 
    • Legally astute with respect to project delivery and maintenance systems.

    Other Competencies:

    • Build and sustain a team of direct reports capable of producing those outputs;
    • Continuously improve the processes used by the team in delivering outputs;
    • Model work behaviors for your direct reports consistent with the company values.
    • Proven ability to initiate and drive the construction project through its life cycle.

    Welder/Fabricator

    About The Job
    Role Purpose And Context:

    • The Welder and Fabricator – Mine Infrastructure, will report to the Mechanical Supervisor –Mine Infrastructure and is accountable for general fabrication and welding activities at the Fridge Plants, Primary Vent Fans, Compressors, Emergency Generator Set and Paste Plant in a safe and compliant manner as instructed.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
    • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
    • Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.  
    • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan.
    • Comply with AGAG Environmental Management, compliance and other legal requirements.
    • Take action to prevent environmental pollution 
    • Comply and follow the operating procedures and environmental rules for the performance of the assigned job.
    • Correct, or report to their Supervisor, any observed environmental deviations, practices and conditions as well make suggestions to improve any aspect of environmental management.
    • Follow the established procedures if incident occur by reporting to the Supervisor.
    • Operate welding, drilling, grinding, cutting machines and oxyacetylene set. 
    • Review drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production. 
    • Take precise measurements and produce sketches for cutting or fabrication. • Plan proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment. 
    • Check output for quality assurance and document or discard defects. 
    • Maintain a safe and clean working area (workshop).
    • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed. 
    • Carry out work cost effectively.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Qualification:

    • A Certificate in Welding and Fabrication trade (example: NVTI, City and Guilds)
    • Apprenticeship or Vocational training preferred

    Experience:

    • Three (3) years of post-apprenticeship work experience in welding and fabrication trade.
    • Should be experienced in the used of hand tools such as grinders, drilling machine etc.

    Technical Competencies:

    • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills; Proficient in math and Basic computer skills
    • Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly
    • Able to read and interpret technical drawing
