    Mechanical Engineer

    About The Job
    Purpose of the Role:

    • Work at the tier 1 & 2 to deliver Asset Care functional expertise across the area/site and lead the shift Asset Care Technicians and support the day based asset care support team to resolve sophisticated equipment problems
    • Actively lead and sponsor CAPEX and innovation activity at site level
    • Lead and advocate good governance around internal and external compliance (health & safety, quality and environment).
    • Continuous Improvement - accountable for specialist improvement activity
    • Provide high levels of specialist support to the operations teams.
    • Proactively lead on performance analysis that drives improvement actions that address adverse performance trends.
    • Lead the MMS Asset Care deployment within the Asset Care within areas of responsibility.
    • Work with Operating Equipment Manufacturers to drive faster problem solving and greater plant availability
    • Support in delivery of outstanding performance in all aspects of the balanced scorecard (Safety, Quality, Environment, Asset Care, Delivery, Productivity, Cost and Morale).

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Ensure alignment to Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Standards and compliance to maintenance regulatory standards at all times.
    • Lead the deployment of the MMS Asset Care practices in the shift asset care teams and within the support team
    • Lead the specialist support team to ensure maximum equipment availability
    • Ensure the asset care team complete all scheduled specialist improvement activity.
    • Attend daily asset care review meetings, and take appropriate action to provide support to course correct non conformance
    • Continuously drives for next level of performance through review of Autonomous Maintenance, Asset Care and Focussed Improvement.
    • Ensure effective management of spare parts
    • Take ownership for the asset care budget and ensure most efficient solutions are completed
    • Develop team morale, recognise great performance and take timely action to address under performance where vital
    • Role model and coach team in the use of problem-solving tools
    • Apply specialist knowledge to lead improvement projects using DMAIC methodology
    • Engage with the Daily Operational Review meetings to raise, discuss and follow up on persistent performance issues to root cause problem solving and effective control

    Qualifications

    • Entry level requirements – skills and experience
    • A qualified time served trade BSc/Hnd Mechanical
    • At least 5 years supervisory experience in an operations environment
    • Relevant IBD qualification (General Certificate in Spirits/Beer Packaging) or willing to complete

    Experience Essential:

    • Ability to manage people performance, coaching and development of a multi-disciplined team
    • Thorough solid understanding and demonstrated expertise in all areas of plant in area
    • Proactive structured problem-solving skills learnt through exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM or Manex
    • Expert knowledge of RCPS, 5S, Set Up Time Reduction, Autonomous Maintenance
    • Basic financial awareness, understanding of business drivers, budgeting processes.
    • Proficient in use of standard business (MS Office) and Diageo packages.
    • Project Management skills & experience
    • Track record of maintenance management - important metric improvement, planning effectiveness and alignment

    Desirable:

    • Good solid understanding of Environmental legislation and standards
    • Best in class people management practices
    • Commercial understanding of production & supply chain management. Financially aware - Capex, R&M
    • Deep knowledge of ME, packaging, lean methodologies, process control, RCM
    • SAP (or MRP systems), Planned Maintenance, Environmental and Quality systems

    Excellence in Supply Chain:

    • Is experienced of working within the Performance Management structure of KPI’s and Tier Review Meeting Structure
    • Has a proven track record in alignment to Core Process and Standards
    • Demonstrates role model behaviour and coaches’ others to follow a consistent approach and go beyond mandatory minimum requirements
    • Proactively demonstrates the learning curriculums and materials on Diageo Academy and other sources to continuously grow and develop in role.

    • The business is the largest of the brewing businesses in Ghana holding circa 75% market share.
    • Growth in the Ghana economy is encouraged to continue at mid to high single digit in a driven environment.
    • Consumers and customers in this region expect products of the highest quality. There is also growing middle classes who are likely to experiment with new products.
    • GGBL is undertaking significant change process, principally in the areas of accountability, quality maintenance practices, supply planning, cost reduction and efficiency. In line with its objectives GGBL will develop its people and create an environment that attracts and retains the best people.
    • As the Supply function we will produce quality products in a safe environment at competitive costs, on time and in full with no errors.

    Role Purpose:

    • Manage the mechanical systems within his area of operation, and other areas as may be specified, to ensure safe, reliable and optimum performance of plant and equipment.
    • Responsible for the execution of Preventive Maintenance and raising notification at the site.
    • The role holder will need to develop, support and implement specific plans to achieve standards

    Accountabilities:

    • At all times adhere to Diageo health and safety, environmental and food safety standards, and work to all applicable legislative procedures. Responsible for Safe Systems of work.
    • Maintain a safe and organised workplace environment through alignment to the Safety and 5S MMS practices
    • Provide Asset Care Technician resource (electrical and mechanical) to the Operations team
    • Accountable to ensure all assigned Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules are carried out at the defined frequency and completed to the required standard.
    • Mentor operators to perform autonomous maintenance tasks, machine set ups optimisation and support growth in equipment capability as required.
    • Support capital work, including installation, commissioning and testing within area as required. Responsible for feeding into early equipment management.
    • Make full use of SAP - SAP reporting & recording completion.
    • Review RCM activity on a weekly basis
    • Understands and uses MMS principles tools and techniques, contributing positively to MMS ITFs
    • Manage personal data in Workday e.g. P4G and personal details (specific responsibilities to be clarified)
    • Attend and contribute to SIC process. Complete short interval control documentation on activities.
    • Raise 5 why’s as defined by agreed trigger points. Work with Operators and team leaders to play a proactive role in situational problem solving on shift. Fixing problems and finding solutions via RCPS
    • Participate in line improvement projects, a skills & experience allow
    • Engage in start of shift meetings and performance-based team meetings to raise and address persistent performance issues.
    • Participates in weekly asset care review meetings
    • Anticipate issues and be more proactive in approach
    • Support TLS & Operators to build asset care and RCPS capability
    • Attend all Tier 1 meetings, contribute to the agenda and complete actions as required

    Qualifications And Experience Required

    • The Electrical/Automation Technician is ideally an individual with strong electrical and analytical engineering experience.
    • He is responsible for maintaining plant and machinery on shift to carry out electrical activities in order to meet the growing volume and quality demands in a reliable and efficient manner. 
    • He participates in continuous improvement initiatives such as PIPs in the department. He should own the planning and execution of his training and development

    • Demonstrate detailed understanding of Permit to Work system and GGBL HSE policies, statutory requirements and responsibilities.
    • Demonstrate understanding of teamwork principles, continuous improvement, preventative maintenance and problem solving.

    Barriers to Success in Role:

    • Lack of personal flexibility to function in a tightly overseen manufacturing environment with volatile production and sales demand.
    • Poor inclination to pursue training and development on an individual and team basis or to share and apply new skills acquired.
    • Inability to connect and build positive relationships.
    • Lack of understanding of the commercial and Demand agenda within the business.
