    Safety Supervisor

    The Safety Officer would ensure workplace safety, using thorough knowledge of all laws and regulations concerning construction and site safety by supporting and providing direction to site employees on safety matters, taking the lead to identify and correct if required, any hazard assessments or provide safety training if lacking, hosting safety meetings with employees on site.

    Key Performance Area’s (Responsibilities):

    Technical Expertise

    • Provide safety support and leadership to site construction employees.
    • Ensure safe working conditions for all workers, suppliers, and visitors on or around the project site.
    • Enforce all established safety regulations and safe work practices are followed.
    • Apply disciplinary procedures when necessary to ensure compliance with the rules.
    • Ensure that construction employees are oriented with the site and its safety regulations.
    • Proof of orientation must be documented and kept on site.
    • Provide instructions to workers on safe work procedures (i.e. How to use personal protective equipment as appropriate, e.g. hard hats, vests, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, or other items deemed necessary.
    • Provide support and administrative assistance to the HSE Manager on safety-related compliance and safety auditing.
    • Correct physical conditions, which are liable to cause or have caused accidents.
    • Undertake the investigation of accidents, incidents, or near misses determining the underlying causes.
    • Complete the necessary forms to document these incidents immediately.
    • Conduct regular on-site hazard assessments, identify hazards, unsafe work practices, and provide recommendations on how to eliminate these issues.
    • Ensure all Hazard Assessments are completed and filed by work order.
    • Provide each employee with information regarding hazards on the job site and how to avoid them.
    • Ensure Hazard Assessment is completed on all sites for the start of all jobs and the daily hazard assessment done.
    • Work in cooperation with other project supervisory personnel to determine procedures for dealing with safety violations.
    • Provide monthly safety reports and continuous development safety policies and procedures.
    • Provide on-site safety documentation and Occupational Health & Safety compliance support to the construction teams.
    • Conduct and document weekly toolbox and monthly safety meetings with all construction employees.
    • Maintain good housekeeping at all work phases and assign specific housekeeping duties to each employee.
    • Responsible for the daily administration of site safety programs.
    • Ensure that corrective action is taken whenever deficiencies are identified.
    • Conduct in house safety training and keep up with current knowledge of safety literature, regulations and codes of practice
    • Responsible for the establishment of workplace safety and health committees, and monitors their performance.

    Operational Function

    • Post all Safety bulletins, Safety posters, and Safety rules and regulations.
    • Ensure that pertinent safety inspections and reports are submitted as required.
    • Review accident reports staying informed and up to date on safety issues.
    • Assist in performing compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
    • Responds to and investigates concerns and complaints from employees and takes appropriate action.
    • Carry out all reasonable instructions by the HSE Manager.

    The following personal capabilities are non-negotiable.

    • Proven work experience as a Safety Officer or similar role in an SMPP project setting
    • Working knowledge of The Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety & Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I.2182), and related legislation.
    • Knowledge of Health & Safety Acts and Regulations, industry standards, and other related acts, codes, and regulations.
    • Knowledge of investigation principles and procedures.
    • Knowledge and understanding of safety management systems; audit and inspections processes; and a general understanding in a variety of health and safety areas such as workplace inspections, OH&S committees, personal protective equipment, and emergency measures.
    • Ability to maintain effective work relationships.
    • Good organizational skills.
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of the interface between labour and management in the workplace.
    • Knowledge of industrial hygiene survey techniques.

    Formal Qualification Required

    • Recognized Academic Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety is essential
    • Minerals Commission Health, Safety and Environment Officer Certificate of Competence is essential.
    • First Aid & Fire Safety Training will be advantageous

    Job-Related Experience Required

    • 5+ years demonstrable experience of working in a similar role at a comparable level on a Project is essential
    • 3+ years worked within the construction setting of SMPP projects and the mining environment will be advantageous.

    Civil & Earthworks Supervisor

    The successful incumbent will be responsible for all on-site management- discipline-specific;

    • Safety, Health & People Management
    • Quality Management
    • Schedule Management (Plan, control, co-ordinate and monitor construction activities to meet the overall project program and key activity dates)
    • Materials Management
    • Construction Management
    • Documentation management and reporting
    • Ensure that erection is completed timeously and complies with the specifications, terms, and conditions of the contract and project plan.
    • Confirm all reinforcements, cast-in items, and shuttering are correctly erected and placed prior to casting of concrete.
    • Ensure civil slabs and building layouts are surveyed and correct prior to work commencement.
    • Ensure correct casting of concrete including slump test confirmation, vibration compaction, and logging of test cubes.
    • Photographically record each step of all major civil and earthworks processes.
    • Complete handover documentation in accordance with the site QC procedure.
    • Receive grout release documentation from SMP contractor and ensure grouting is carried out in accordance with the specification.

    Key Performance Areas and Indicators (Responsibilities):

    Technical Expertise

    • Ensure knowledge of civil and earthwork supervision & specifications and standards.
    • Ensure that the scope and area of responsibility is fully understood.
    • Ability to interpret the construction drawings and models to ensure that construction is carried out correctly.
    • Manage the onsite constructability methodology for all major construction activities.
    • Assist with providing solutions for any construction-related technical issues.
    • Be aware of all labour legislation as well as to DRA policies and procedures.

    Contract Management

    • Ensure that contractor scope is fully understood.
    • Manage the contractors’ activities in accordance with the construction schedule.
    • Manage contractor manpower, plant, and equipment requirements to meet construction objectives.
    • Ensure that contractor daily diaries are current and correct.
    • Manage the Site Instruction process in accordance with the procedures.

    Quality Management

    • Manage the construction quality in accordance with the site quality control procedure.
    • Ensure that the approved contractor quality plans (QCPs) are being used and signed off.
    • Ensure construction works are carried out as per project specifications, standards, and drawings.
    • Ensure that the quality requirements/checklists as detailed in the DRA Project Construction Procedure are being implemented.
    • Ensure that quality critical equipment is in sound working condition.
    • Ensure that Contractor quality records and documentation (site QC data book) are kept current.
    • Initiate punch lists and coordinate the completion of punch list items.
    • Coordinate the updating of as-built drawings.

    Communications

    • Ensure open and honest communication with the Contractors and suppliers.
    • Report on progress and deviations against the project schedule.
    • Report on all construction and technical matters to the Construction Manager and Discipline Engineer.
    • Maintain communication channels at all times with the site team including the other discipline supervisors.
    • Encourage positive and constructive morale and atmosphere across the site.

    SHE Management

    • Understand the contents of the DRA SHE specifications, Mines Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996), the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) as well as any specific legislation of foreign countries that may be applicable, and ensure compliance.
    • Implement and maintain the SHE management system on site.
    • Manage the plan task observations in accordance with the PTO schedule.
    • Ensure that hazards and risks are identified in all construction activities.
    • Focus on the elimination of unsafe acts, and ensure that unsafe conditions are rectified.
    • Final approval of all risk assessments.
    • Identify and communicate shortcoming and corrective measures to DRA SHE specifications.
    • Ensure that all works are conducted in accordance with the approved project environmental and social impact assessments, plans, and legislation.
    • Assisting the construction manager to perform his duties in terms of mine legislation and SHE procedures.
    • Report safety deviations in accordance with the project safety reporting procedure.

    • 10-20 years’ work experience is essential or Technical Diploma or Degree in Civil discipline with 10 years of solid construction project experience.
    • 10-20 years’ applicable experience in EPCM or Main contractor with experience outside of Ghana (Project and Mining Experience).

    Mechanical Supervisor

    • Verify all site delivered equipment alongside Materials Control, confirming equipment tag numbers, approving the packing lists, and checking against the Mechanical equipment list.
    • Receive all hand-over and safe working certificates from Civil and Earthworks contractors, prior to allowing mechanical contractors into the work area. Keeping a clear record of access dates.
    • Report any discrepancies and misalignments to the Project Engineer and Construction Manager, confirming the root cause of misalignments or errors (Civil, Steel, Mechanical, Piping, Equipment, Drawings)

    Driver

    The main purpose of this role will is to ensure the proper maintenance of vehicles; the timely delivery and collection of written documents; the procurement process for all departments and the safe delivery of staff to their respective destinations. Required to conduct periodic checks of the vehicles, reception desk requests, and internal mail and respond appropriately.

    Key Performance Areas and Indicators (Responsibilities):

    Operational

    • Ensure that all company vehicles are serviced in time.
    • Ensure that all company vehicles are refueled as and when required.
    • Ensure that all company vehicles are clean.
    • Ensure the delivery of any written communications to contacts outside of Master Drilling
    • Ensuring the collection of written communications and other items from outside Master Drilling.
    • Ensure that the staff of Master Drilling is driven safely to their respective destinations.

    Quality and Time

    • Follow route and time schedule.
    • Carefully driving staff and clients to city locations.
    • Daily time management.

    Communication

    • Complete logs and reports.
    • Ensure all deliveries and issues are reported.

    Formal Qualification Required

    • A minimum of WASSCE certificate will be essential
