    Freight Coordinator

    About The Job

    About This Role

    • To support the development, implementation, continuous improvement and execution of Newmont’s logistics and transportation, policies and guidelines to drive shared goals and objectives across the entire Supply Chain and specifically for logistics and freight activities. 
    • To oversee all administrative regional modal and transportation planning activities, in order to verify all regulatory obligations are met, in compliance with regional government and Newmont procedures and policies. 
    • To enhance Newmont’s overall logistics and transportation management capability through continuous improvement and development of the organisation.

    In This Role You Will

    • Customer Relations:
      • Communicate with suppliers, Freight Forwarder and End user, to achieve desired satisfaction. 
      • Evaluate and process claims made by customers and interface with Freight Forwarder for resolution.
      • Freight Invoice Review & Management of SAP Freight Account:
      • Responsible for the review of all Freight invoices to ensure accuracy and application to the correct cost centre
      • Responsible for the periodic reconciliation of Freight Account with Finance to ensure freight cost are appropriately allocated.
    • Execution:
      • Oversee the operational and administrative requirements regarding freight and logistics for Newmont.
      • Coordinate and monitor Newmont Freight operations. 
      • Optimize shipping and transport procedures. 
      • Plan and track the shipment of final products according to customer requirements. 
      • Route incoming and outgoing communication regarding freight shipments and transportation needs. 
      • File freight and transportation documentation as required by law and record keeping standards.
      • Evaluate the performance, quality, and pricing of freight vendors.
      • Continuously seek new ways to address cost and improve efficiency in the freight and logistics category.
    • Local Content:
      • Support in the execution local content strategy for the site in alignment with the regional and global strategies.

    Purchasing Officer

    About The Job

    About This Role:

    • To contract on behalf of Newmont, primarily for mid-range spend and /or medium level risk.
    • To collaborate effectively with all stakeholders in mining, process and support services in order to deliver best outcome of value to their budget, and to verify continuity of supply to all Newmont Africa operations.
    • To facilitate the supply chain deliverables on Supplier Risk Management and Lifecycle procurement and contract Management process.
    • To seek and leverage local, regional and global Newmont procurement opportunities to deliver value for the region.

    In This Role You Will

    • Contracting Process Management:
      • Provide information and reports on sensitive contracting activities and progress on projects, including deviations from original contract.
      • Collaborate with the Senior Site Supply Chain Manager and Sourcing and Procurement Manager to verify that all contracts meet Newmont, local, state and national laws, rules and regulations.
      • Generate Requests for Pricing (RFP’s) which can be converted to Outline agreements contracts.
      • Execute Outline Agreements in a timely manner, which efficiently minimizes future labour and price for administering inventories.
      • Evaluate tenders and Request for Quotes (RFQs) with the ability to select the best value price and / or solution.
      • Conduct contractor meetings including pre-bid, pre-award, progress, performance, negotiation, and close-out for large complex contracts as required.
      • Negotiate changes in contract scope of work, prepare and execute change orders as needed.
      • Facilitate the Supplier Risk Management process.
      • Apply Newmont Lifecycle procurement and contracting process in all procurement's activities.

    General Manager - AKYEM

    About The Job

    Purpose

    • The General Manager, Akyem reports directly to the Regional Senior Vice President (RSVP), Africa Operations and serves as a formal member of the Africa Leadership Team.

    Responsibilities:

    • To strategically transform, effectively position, lead and direct the Mine site in delivering a safe, profitable and sustainable business that contributes to the achievement of the African Regional and Newmont strategies.
    • To develop and implement the Mine site's business strategy, plans and initiatives that is aligned with and support realization of the Region's overall business strategy, priorities and objectives, in order to increase the Region's competitive advantage and achieve growth targets. 
    • To partner with the RSVP and ARLT to formulate and execute the Africa Operations' overall business strategy and objectives in order to achieve growth targets.
    • To enable the site Full Potential process and deliver enhanced results through continuous improvement. 
    • To develop and maintain all the necessary contacts and relationships with local stakeholders and community groups to foster a smooth and expeditious business program. 
    • To lead the mine site's operations and projects safely and fully comply with all reporting and advisory requirements to governmental and legislated authorities. 
    • To provide direction and leadership to all the leaders at the Mine site to ensure the implementation of the Mine site's and Region's strategies, objectives, plans, programs, initiatives and procedures to guarantee optimized performance and growth.
    • To accept overall accountability for the Mine site's adherence to all mining regulations 
    • To drive effective stakeholder management at the Mine site to safeguard Newmont’s interests in Africa and guarantee pro-active compliance with all legal and permitting requirements with the goal of fostering increased maturity and operating success for the Africa business in the medium to long term.

    Essential Duties

    • Health and Safety:
      • Create and lead a culture of zero harm and minimal health exposures at the mine site by integrating Health and Safety into the site's business strategy and individual performance plans to achieve improvements year-over-year.
      • Lead the mine site's team to implement Fatality Risk Management (FRM) standards and processes along with Live Work Elimination as outlined in the Objectives Map.
      • Ensure the quality of pre-start meetings and critical control verifications.
      • Ensure quality of SPE investigations and application of lessons learned.
      • Reduce health exposures by implementing critical controls for key risks by developing and implementing exposure reduction plans.
    • Operational Excellence:
      • Lead the successful delivery of the mine site's business plans and actively drive performance to guarantee medium and long-term success.
      • Set and maintain a productivity (output-driven) and continuous process improvement culture by creating an environment for employees to challenge the status quo.
      • Drive rapid replication of value adding initiatives from other sites in Newmont while fully supporting and driving the Full Potential Program at site.  
      • Drive year-over-year-improvement in cost management and other critical operational performance metrics.
      • Achieve the mine site's annual production, Cash Sustaining Costs per Gold Equivalent Ounce (CSC/GEO) and Adjusted Free Cash Flow (Adjusted FCF), saving and improvement targets and objectives as defined by the annual Region Strategy Map.
      • Establish and ensure compliance with all Newmont policies and standards, as well as site-specific guidelines and operating procedures.
    • Growth:
      • Lead Mine site to achieve profitable, sustainable growth through cost-effective projects and exploration.
      • Accelerate potential expansions and prospects to a stage sufficient to present these projects to Newmont's Board for approval.
      • Take overall accountability for the successful execution of the Mine site's growth objectives as defined by the annual Africa Region Road Map.

    Essential Duties (continued)

    • People:
      • Develop and lead an enabled, engaged, performance-driven and diverse Mine site team that works collaboratively with each other to achieve the site's business plans and objectives.
      • Conduct workforce planning and develop staffing and localization plans.
      • Identify critical skills essential for the sustainability of service delivery and confirm that a succession plan is in place and implemented for the leaders and all the other critical jobs on the Mine site.
      • Provide continuous and comprehensive professional and managerial training to staff to ensure that the team is capable enough to transfer to any region.
      • Confirm that gender diversity targets are met and exceeded. 
      • Set an appropriate "tone at the top" that creates trust and acceptance of the Newmont values and direction throughout operations at the Mine site.
      • Develop and drive a culture of integrity, ethics, compliance and speaking-up.
      • Lead the site team and functions to work effectively and efficiently within the Newmont Operating Model

    Training & Experience

    • Formal Qualification:
      • Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline plus a Mine Certificate of Competence issued by Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
      • A MBA or equivalent qualification (Optional).

    Experience:

    • Between 15 - 20 years' experience in international mining environments with 7 years of senior mine management experience with multi-functional, broad-based management responsibilities, which should ideally include multi-site operations.
    • Demonstrated successes in working collaboratively in multi-cultural teams in expatriate settings. Work in developing countries, specifically in West Africa preferred. 
    • A proven track record of delivering "safe" production. 
    • Leadership selection and assessment ensuring the right people are in the right roles, removing poor performers / leaders and identifying and developing key successors.

    Additional Knowledge:

    • Substantial knowledge of gold mining or broader hard rock mining with an extensive understanding of regulations, permitting, risk, and projects.
    • Substantial knowledge of health and safety, sustainability and productivity improvements in the mining industry.
    • Substantial knowledge in working constructively with governments, communities, NGOs and special interest groups.

    • Lead the development and effective execution of Newmont Africa’s external communications and social media strategies to enhance Newmont Africa’s brand reputation, promote external stakeholder engagement to enhance acceptance and support.

    • Employee Communications:
      • Develop and implement an employee communications and engagement strategy that supports business objectives and priorities, key organisational initiatives, and change management.

      • Build a media coalition and provide them with regular approved relevant factual information about the Ahafo North Project, and other growth projects, and its potential benefits to the local communities, as well as the national economy. 
      • Monitor all communication channels for information on the Ahafo North, and other growth projects, and develop appropriate responses to issues raised by NGOs, youth groups, and other relevant stakeholders. 
      • Develop speaking notes and fact sheets on the Ahafo North Project, and other growth projects, for all external facing officers of Newmont Africa, to be used during stakeholder engagements.

    Training, Skills and Experience

    • Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
      • Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, English or a related degree.

    Experience:

    • 10 - 15 years’ work experience in Public Relations, Communications, Media Relations, or Journalism preferably in an extractive industry or multinational firm and at managerial level.
