Position: Small Business Development Officer (SBDO)
Location: Fielmuo/Gwollu with frequent travel to the field
Reporting to: Livelihood, Food Security and Empowerment Coordinator
Relationships: Coordinators and Field Officers
Small Business Development Officer (SBDO)
The post-holder shall lead VVF Small Business and Enterprise Development Program. He/she shall design and operationalize a Business Development Model/Strategy that empowers small and agro-based enterprises to grow and become financially sustainable. The specific roles and responsibilities of the post-holder are:
- Lead the development of small business development strategy
- Lead the identification and enrolment of small and agro businesses to participate in the program
- Formation and strengthening of small businesses and associations
- Facilitate linkages and networking among small business owners especially Soap Making groups, VSLAs and FBOs
- Support small business owners to develop and implement business development plans
- Mentor and coach small businesses to adopt best business practices including but not limited to business registration, records keeping and customer care
- Develop guidelines and roll out a revolving fund
- Set-up and operationalize VVF mobile business incubation centre concept
- Develop training materialsand conduct regular capacity building for small business owners
- Document and share success stories, best practices and lessons learned from program implementation
- Develop monitoring tools and track the performance of small businesses
- Participate in project accountability platforms including the project steering committee and staff review meetings
- Establish partnerships with the Business Advisory Centre at the various district assemblies and other actors within the district and region
- Prepare and share weekly, monthly and activity based reports with supervisor
- Represent VVF at stakeholder meetings in consultation with supervisor (s)
Qualification Required & Experience
Profile and experience of the post-holder
- Degree in Agri-Business, Economics, Integrated Development Studies, Commerce, Accounting, Banking and Finance or equivalent work experience
- At least 3 years’ experience working in similar position with a non-profit organization
- Ability to ride a motor bike for long distances in remote communities
- Ability to work in multi-ethnic and culturally diverse stakeholders
- Analysis and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment
- Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English required
- Ability to Speak Sissali and/or Dagaare language is required
- Strong commitment to improving the well-being of families in rural communities
- Computer literacy in word, access and excel is required

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator
The post-holder shall be responsible for designing and operationalizing monitoring and evaluation systems in remote areas. He/She shall contribute to project development, research and evaluations. The specific roles and responsibilities of the post-holder are below:
Develop and Maintain Monitoring and Evaluation systems
- Create a M&E strategy in line with country needs and best M&E practices
- Develop M&E systems relevant for data collection, analysis, storage and retrieval
- Train and mentor staff to effectively utilise the M&E tools and systems
- Ensure that M&E tools take into account the impact of program intervention in the lives of vulnerable populations especially women and children.
- Work closely with other coordinator level staff to developproject log frames and performance measurement guides
- Support staff to ensure the implementation of M&E plans
- Maintain and regularly update program data
- Provide advice on necessary project adjustments during implementation and post-implementation.
- Monitor compliance of organizational polices and standards
Assessment and project design
- Design assessment tools and conduct research as may be appropriate
- Maintain detailed records and notes on monitoring and evaluation activities
- Prepare reports and working papers based on research, monitoring and evaluation results
- Prepare spreadsheets, tables, and graphs to highlight findings from the Foundation’s studies.
- Prepare monitoring and evaluation reports and share with relevant stakeholders
- Utilize research findings to inform project design and implementation
- Help develop criteria for the selection of project beneficiaries
- Ensure compliance of field staff and communities to VVF Child Protection, Gender, Sexual harassment and Anti-fraud policies.
Learning and accountability
- Facilitate lesson learned sessions to document key success and challenges of project implementation
- Review and ensure that training materials are of high quality and standard
- Collate, store and retrieve project information in a timely manner
- Supervise and ensure that field activities are carried out according to plan
- Regularly visit communities to monitor progress of program activities, identify areas for improvement; work closely with communities to address the gaps
- Monitor and undertake internal review and evaluation of programs
- Verify and validate data collected by officers from the field
- Represent the Foundation at partner coordination meetingsin consultation with the Program Director
- Prepare and share regular monitoring report with all staff
- Facilitate the rollout of the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) and ensure staff adhere to the key principles and commitment of the CHS
Qualification Required & Experience
Profile and experience of the post-holder
- Degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences or relevant area or equivalent work experience
- Advanced degree is an added advantage
- At least 4 years’ experience as MEAL Coordinator in social development programming
- Demonstrate knowledge of quantitative and qualitative M&E systems and tools
- Ability to work in multi-ethnic and culturally diverse stakeholders
- Analysis and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment
- Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English required
- Ability to Speak Sissali and/or Dagaare language will be an added advantage
- Excellent computer skills, including experience in using Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, SPSS, Access, and any other statistical packages.
- Strong commitment to improving the well-being of families in rural communities.
Location: WA (40%) and Fielmuo (60%)
