    Mechanical Engineer- Surface Infrastructure

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • The Mechanical Engineer - Surface Infrastructure, is accountable for safely delivering the design, build, execution and commissioning of surface mechanical infrastructure on budget and on schedule.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Adhere to HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.
    • Demonstrate behaviour consistent with AGAG’s vision and values.
    • Lead by example at all times to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed to ensure tasks are performed without the risk of injury or harm to themselves, others and the environment.
    • Establish the Mechanical Engineering team for the Surface operations, capable of supporting the role holder in executing the project construction deliverables.
    • Review and confirm the accuracy of Bill of Materials.
    • Develop and coordinate work packs with and for work crews.
    • Define equipment and parts from external suppliers.
    • Conduct cost estimation.
    • Safely deliver Project Mechanical implementation, including installation and commissioning.
    • Oversee project workflow and support internal and external resources to ensure the safe and timely delivery of project works, expected quality, and allotted budget.
    • Support manufacture, build and validation of systems.
    • Resolve operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases.
    • Generate engineering reports, specifications, procedures and engineered solutions in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Create required documentation, drawings, process definition, procedures and manuals as required.
    • Prepare progress reports and procurement updates for inclusion in weekly/monthly reports.
    • Monitor progress, attend site meetings and represent AGA as required.
    • Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standard.
    • Develop commissioning plan for review and sign-off.
    • Execute Commissioning plan.
       

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

    Experience

    • Must have 10 - 15 plus years post-graduation on mechanical design and the implementation and execution of major processing plant and support services projects.
    • Must have managed and directed project construction activities.

    Senior Geotechnical Engineer

     ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • To develop and lead an effective site Geotechnical Engineering team capable of continuously enhancing performance whilst delivering on the business objectives / targets. To mitigate geotechnical risk by identifying geotechnical hazards and advising appropriate actions.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Establish the necessary Geotechnical processes and practices for the operations of the Obuasi Mine.
    • Provide unequivocal Geotechnical planning data to enable the quarterly updates of the rolling 18-month plan to be produced on time.
    • Develop the annual Geotechnical cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium term and LoM business plans.
    • Deliver the work of the Geotechnical function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs.
    • Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the Geotechnical department and with own Geotechnical team regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development.
    • Responsible and accountable for their team’s environmental obligations and performances by conducting informal meetings with team and reporting any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
    • Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
    • Investigate all environmental incidents in their assigned work areas. Immediately after an incident, complete an incident report form and submit to the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative. A preliminary investigation report and any recommendations for preventing a recurrence should be included on the incident report form.
    • Attend all scheduled and assigned environmental training meetings.
    • Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority.
    • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements.
       

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • BSc in Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or similar.

    Experience 

    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience and demonstrated technical capability and knowledge of open pit and/or underground mining geotechnical design and implementation
    • Demonstrated capability to conduct technical geotechnical work with limited supervision
    • Experience in the use of Mining Geotechnical Software;
    • Good Communication Skills.

    Technical Competencies

    • Understands all the aspects of design basis and mechanisms identification and has demonstrated the ability to address their impact on the design with minimal supervision.
    • Knows when to engage Specialists support.
    • Understands how inputs & outputs to design specification contributes to the design parameters and how they can be manipulated to reduce variability.
    • Can implement a new design specification philosophy under supervision.
    • Commission and maintain a fit-for-purpose monitoring system for the mining method.
    • Investigates areas of significant deviation from the LOM design predicted operational limits
    • Conducts advanced evaluation and trend assessments and reports the results at daily/weekly production meetings (short term focus) - knows when to engage Specialist support
    • Collects and manages relevant data to a high standard of quality assurance and control.
    • Uses relevant statistical analysis, technical models, systems and tools as part of the analytical process.
    • Makes & supports conclusions with accurate information & analysis suited to the mining method.
    • Construct numerical models in simple codes.
    • Understands the critical operational parameters to operate numerical codes and equipment within design tolerances.
    • Understands the basic assumptions and reliability of numerical codes and equipment, and can identify when results are outside of norm

    Communications Superintendent

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • The purpose of the Communications Superintendent role is to lead the Communications subfunction of the Sustainability Department to develop a more visible and enviable corporate image and effectively establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between the mine and the public towards securing social license for the mine.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Ensure compliance with Safety KPIs through Planned Task Observations, Positive / Hazards Observation and Reporting, Workplace Visits / Inspections, etc.
    • Enforce all environmental work procedures issued by the Head of Department
    • Build and sustain a team of direct reports capable of producing required outputs and model the team’s work behaviours consistent with the company values
    • Plan and deploy financial resources assigned within the approved frameworks to ensure the delivery of all strategic initiatives within budget and time frame agreed.
    • Develop and implement effective communication plan for various situations or crises
    • Perform communications research and monitor the progress of various communication strategies including analyzing media coverage, define target audience, and identify what platforms will help scaling public relations efforts
    • Organise media campaigns to improve public access to information
    • Develop and maintain a positive media relation at local, regional, and national levels
    • Manage active social media presence of the Obuasi Mine to improve brand visibility and positive story communication
    • Support organization of mine events such as conferences, launches, press tours, etc

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Data Communications, Public Relations or a related field

    Experience 

    • 5 years’ experience in similar line of work
    • A good knowledge and understanding of the mining industry and internationally applicable standards relevant to mining and sustainable development (ICMM, IFC, ESG, VPSHR, GEITI, etc.)
    • A good understanding of the business functions in alignment with organizational priorities and audience needs and preferences
    • A good experience in defining, creating, and delivering clear, consistent, compelling content that effectively tells the organization’s story
    • Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews
    • Solid experience with social media including blogs

    Senior Project Planner

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    The primary purpose of the position is to take the lead role in respect to project planning function, specifically compiling and leading the Obuasi Redevelopment Project (ORP) Phase 3 Master Schedule process. This role is responsible for overseeing and implementing a comprehensive schedule control system, including day-to-day planning activities and the integration of Contractor, and third-party schedules into the overall ORP Phase 3 master schedule. 

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Responsible for the setup, implementation, maintenance and management of the baseline project master schedule and performance baseline to AGA Planning and Scheduling standards.
    • Responsible for managing and maintaining the Primavera planning system.
    • Prepare project reports including S-Curves, Dashboard, earned value management, etc.
    • Ensure schedule alignment to WBS, contracting and procurement strategy.
    • Support the Project Management team, by providing accurate and timely planning information, such as progress and productivity updates, critical path, near critical path, variance analysis and corrective actions to support decision making processes
    • Conduct schedule analysis utilizing resource loading and levelling, S curves and histograms to ensure schedules are attainable and realistic.
    • Oversee planning and scheduling resources to ensure adequate information and support is provided to the senior management team to make informed and timely decisions.
    • Provide appropriate training and guidance where necessary to ensure data quality and integrity is maintained and converted into information to support timely decision making.
    • Mentor and develop planning personnel, to raise planning competency, knowledge and promote best practice planning techniques
    • Support a planning culture where continuous improvement in performance is valued.
    • Implement schedule controls including float management, earned value and critical path analysis, with a well-defined, objective progress measurement regime
    • Responsible for developing and implementing an operational readiness schedule for the Mining team
    • Actively participate in schedule review meetings, maintain meeting records and agreed actions from minutes, and any follow activities to ensure actions are completed in a timely manner
    • Provide regular project updates to the management team in relation to progress, and highlight any issues or concerns that may impact on compliance, cause delays or potential increase in cost
    • Proactively address changes and incorporate formally approved changes into the schedule in a timely manner.
    • Audit contractor and third-party schedules prior to incorporating into the project master schedule.
    • Maintain accurate meeting records, agreed actions, and ensure follow up actions are completed.
    • In conjunction with the Senior Manager UG Infrastructure, assist with the development of the overall commissioning schedule. Help coordinate engineering and construction labour and resources (plant and equipment) to support the commissioning process
    • Lead by example always to create a safe working environment. Commitment to project safety, by taking responsibility for personal safety and ensuring safe working practices for the planning Team.
    • Understand and adhere to HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • A recognized tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering
    • Project Management Certification (PMP)

    Experience 

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in lead or senior planning and scheduling role on a major project
    • Demonstrated experience and understanding of project management principles, with advanced knowledge of planning principles
    • Extensive Engineering and Construction planning experience
    • Demonstrated proficiency expert Primavera P6 Software and MS Project user
    • Knowledge of related project controls functions specifically planning and control, progress measurement, change control and reporting principles
    • Commitment to a culture of continuous improvement

    Technical Competencies

    • Extensive engineering and Construction planning experience
