    General Foreman-Operations

    About This Role

    • To manage the underground mine infrastructure operational personnel and to coordinate with mechanical, electrical and controls functions on the operation of the associated production plant and equipment with the aim of delivering optimum plant productivity whilst maintaining the highest standards in regard to safety, efficiency, and good housekeeping.

    In This Role You Will

    Underground mine infrastructure operations oversight

    • Develop and implement operations strategies, budgets and plans to ensure the maximum availability of the fixed plant at optimum cost.
    • Collaborate with the supply chain department and maintenance planning to ensure that all the necessary materials and supplies are available to maintain the underground mine and associated facilities.
    • Oversee operations in the crushing plant and other underground mine infrastructure.
    • Oversee the development and review of the standard task procedures (STPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), management plans and guidelines.
    • Provide input into failure analysis studies and recommend alternative strategies for maintenance.
    • Schedule and deploy personnel, equipment and supplies necessary for the successful operation of the underground mine infrastructure.
    • Coordinate production shutdowns and start-ups of the underground mine infrastructure to minimize delays.
    • Maintain a high housekeeping standard in the areas of underground mine infrastructure.
    • Manage and control costs within own area, where possible (i.e., reduce waste, improve operational control).
    • Coordinate and execute procedural and operational projects and changes within the underground mine infrastructure areas by following the change management procedure.
    • Any other tasks or duties within the individual’s skill set as directed by the maintenance superintendent or senior mine officials.

    Underground Mine Infrastructure Operations Supervision

    • Ensure that operations team employees are being trained and developed in accordance with the company's personnel development program.
    • Manage and supervise contractors engaged in operation related activities for the underground mine.
    • Supervise allocated staff member(s) by:
    • Promoting efficiency in all aspects of plant operation activities.
    • Providing on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching and recommending relevant training and development courses.
    • Performing the first level of performance appraisal for direct reports.
    • Disciplining poor performance or actions (first level of disciplinary procedures).
    • Enhancing communication with staff through regular feedback, contact, meetings and briefings, etc. Conduct thorough shift handover meetings to the relevant shift / crew and transfer applicable information.

    Health, Safety and Environment

    • Comply with all Health and Safety, Loss Prevention, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System.
    • Accept responsibility for the health and safety of employees under or assigned to his / her supervision.
    • Provide hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensuring that safe work practices are followed.
    • Manage isolation / de-isolation of the underground mine infrastructure equipment.
    • Conduct and attend periodic safety meetings, inspections, and audits.
    • Attend monthly safety inspection and meetings.
    • Oversee that security procedures are followed to minimize the opportunities for theft of material or company property.

    Plant and Equipment Maintenance

    Coordinate and assist operations and maintenance personnel with troubleshooting plant and equipment defects / malfunctions.

    • Perform equipment isolations, in accordance to established procedures.
    • Work with the maintenance team to achieve efficient plant and equipment performance and availability.
    • Work with the maintenance team to efficiently rectify plant and equipment breakdowns.
    • Liaise with the maintenance department in defining maintenance requirements for the underground mine infrastructure outside of regular business hours to maintain production requirements and targets.

    Reporting

    • Responsible for the compilation, operations and management of an accurate, complete and up to date schematic register for the underground mine and associated infrastructure.
    • Produce operation related reports as required and distributes to the relevant personnel and mine officials.
    • Ensure that shift handover and other meetings as required are conducted in an efficient and orderly manner.
    • Produce incident / accident reports, where required.
    • Conduct regular meetings with the operations team and other departments and personnel as required ensuring that the appropriate information is gathered or disseminated.

    Training, Skills And Experience Checklist

    Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

    • Bachelors’ Degree in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemistry or equivalent is highly desirable.
    • A trade qualification in a mechanical, electrical or automation field is highly desirable.

    Additional Knowledge

    • Demonstrable knowledge of mineral processing principles and mining industry standards.
    • Advanced knowledge of crushing and refrigeration plant equipment.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in metalliferous mining.
    • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in an industrial environment.
    • Previous process operating experience, particularly with crushing plants.

    Working Conditions

    • The physical demands and work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job.
    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Work environment: The noise level in the office work environment is minimal, however the employee is occasionally required to operate in a safety-critical environment with hazardous
    • materials and potentially harmful / dangerous machinery and equipment. The employee will be required to work underground. Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, slippery surfaces etc.
    • Protective equipment (PPE): Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, goggles, high visible clothing, safety harness, ear plugs, and dust mask based on working conditions.

    System and Service Officer

    About This Role

    • This role is responsible for the conduct of quality control and assurance in the management of field data and subsequent payment of land related compensation to all eligible persons in the mine communities who have been affected by both temporal and permanent land acquisition. This includes supervision of verification of manual /electronic data capturing and cash call creation. It demands responsibility, efficiency and timeliness of the whole land access related compensation process from field assessment to actual payment to meet expectations of community members.
    • The role also supports Sustainability and External Relations (S&ER) contracts and procurement processes.

    In This Role You Will

    Supervise land access compensation-related data or information into the S&ER database (Isometrix).

    • Conduct quality assurance and control in relation to the land access compensation process for exploration and mining area land-takes.
    • Ensure accuracy and validation of all hard copy and electronic compensation data sets from field to electronic capture.
    • Liaise with finance to ensure timeliness and accuracy in payment protocols.
    • Work with community relations team to diagnose and resolve complaints and grievance relating to land access compensation (crop, structure, livelihoods and deprivation of land-use).
    • Prepare payment calls for finance approval and issuance of payment cheque.
    • Set-up negotiation rate, mining area land access and exploration projects in the database.
    • Manage and secure compensation field assessment forms to ensure compliance.

    Archiving And Land Access Compensation Database Management

    • Manage hard copy and electronic archived data for referencing and project closure.
    • Gather technical information/diagnose problems relating to the compensation database.
    • Perform compensation system change management.
    • Stock compensation field assessment forms in the database.
    • Provide responses to support system audit for continuous improvement.
    • Assist in the assessment of user training needs and perform in house training for system users.

    Reporting

    • Develop and manage embargo register as input for complaints and grievance resolution.
    • Prepare payment call report for project owner approval.
    • Develop dashboard and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for land access compensation reporting.
    • Prepare cost accruals, performance monitoring templates, cost profiles.
    • Coordinate Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI) and other related Sustainability and External Relations (S&ER) cheque requests for payment.
    • Follow-up with Accounts Payable function regarding payment progress and delays.

    Safety

    • Report all incidents and accidents in the work group to enable management to identify areas for improvement in work practices.
    • Demonstrate leadership in safety and comply with Newmont Ghana Health Safety Loss and Prevention ( HSLP) policies and procedures that involve but are not limited to Safety inspections, Safety Training, Annual Refresher.
    • Safety Talks, Incident Reporting and Investigation etc.
    • Present information accurately at safety/environment meetings.
