    Simulation Education Analyst, CIME-EA

    Job Purpose/Summary

    Reporting to Regional Director, is responsible to work closely with the faculty in School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Medical College to design and assist in the delivery of simulation- based courses, sessions, and activities for their undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. The incumbent will also work closely with colleagues in AKU Hospital to design and oversee simulation based CPD progammes for their staff and assist in the planning and delivery of events and workshops for external clients while ensuring that all simulation-based programmes adhere to standards and policies of CIME. 

    Key Roles and Responsibilities 

    • Works with faculty School of Nursing and Midwifery and Medical College and colleagues in designing and developing courses, workshops and programmes for their undergraduate and post- graduate programmes
    • Supports and runs life support courses as necessary
    • Assists in the day-to-day administration and operation of the Centre’s activities in teaching and learning, research and community engagement
    • Utilises technological developments and innovations in support of faculty educational needs
    • Assists in the organisation and delivery of events and workshops for external clients.
    • Keeps up to date documentation of all simulation-based sessions at CIME (curriculum, evaluations and reports)
    • Writes simulation specific scholarly articles and research proposals
    •  Analyses data generated from the simulation-based sessions and make inferences to inform future courses
    • Undertakes programmes of CPD as required to maintain currency of skills and knowledge.
    • Undertakes assignments in relation to Clinical Simulation in campuses across AKU.
    • Contributes to Research Activities in CIME to improve educational function.
    • Other duties as identified by supervisor

    Relevant Experience and Qualifications 

    • Degree in health sciences in the field of medicine or nursing
    • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience is preferable, though fresh graduates may also apply.
    • Ability to work independently in planning, designing, and evaluating simulation-based programmes
    •  Internal drive to initiate new programmes
    • Competence at Analyst level in 16 identified clinical simulation competencies at CIME. 
    • Sound academic record with interest in teaching and learning through technology.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent organizational, information management and computer skills. 
    • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
    • Attention to detail, focused on providing a high quality experience to visitors and learners
    • A team player who supports other team members

    Communications Officer, ANS Programmes

    Job Purpose/Summary

    Reporting to the Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery East Africa, the Communications Officer will provide practical experience in communication, marketing, and media relations, which will help the organisation achieve its educational mission.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities 

    • Drafting, editing, and publishing content for newsletters, social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, X), and internal communication channels.
    • Create engaging graphics, posters, and banners for events, campaigns, and updates using tools like Canva or Adobe Suite.
    • Research and develop stories aligned with our target audience.
    • Contribute to the end-to-end production of newsletters: planning, content writing, editing, and layout design.
    • Collaborate on managing Sonam’s social media pages, including content planning, scheduling, and monitoring performance metrics.
    •  Respond to comments and messages, ensuring timely and professional engagement with the audience.
    • Monitor social media analytics and trends, as well as engage with the online community.
    • Deliver live social media coverage of events. (Facebook stories, and live tweets)
    • Create event marketing materials (flyers/Posters)
    • Collaborate with photographers and videographers to document events, ensuring high-quality coverage.

    Relevant Experience and Qualifications 

    • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics or health sciences.
    • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
    • Previous experience in content creation, social media management, or digital marketing (internships, freelancing, or volunteer work are acceptable).
    • Proficiency in photography, videography, and editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Canva).

    Instructor, Department of Pathology

    Job Summary

    • The incumbent will undertake educational and clinical functions under the supervision of the Department Chair or delegated individuals within the department.  In this role, the incumbent undertakes diagnostic procedures including grossing surgical specimens, examining histology, immunohistochemistry and cytology slides, perform FNAs and autopsies. They will also conduct learning sessions with the residents as well as participate in interdisciplinary meetings.

    Responsibilities

    • Access and manage patients.
    • Work closely with laboratory technologists on the bench to ensure quality test results.
    • Act as a clinical liaison between the clinicians and the laboratory.
    • Participate in tumor boards on a regular basis.
    • Initiate discussions with patient and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services.
    • Initiate timely discussions with relevant consultants/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
    • Participate in establishing various planning parameters for addressing referral cases received at AKUH.
    • Participate in the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ health care to formulate best practice guidelines.
    • Participate in discussions with relevant members of the clinical care team to enable better integration of patient care activities.
    • Participate in the meticulous use of resources to enable patient safety and quality care.
    • Participate in departmental & institutional quality improvement and patient safety activities.
    • Mentorship of medical school students, interns, and residents.
    • Involved in research involvement – University priority and personal interest areas.
    • Participating in Departmental Residency Training Committee (DRTC), examination and other faculty or departmental meetings as may be determined.
    • Seek opportunities to attain and maintain competency in knowledge and skills to perform duties described; and

    Requirements

    • Master of Medicine in Clinical Pathology or equivalent.
    • Recognized and registered as a Clinical Pathologist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Demonstrated competency and dexterity with all equipment utilized in the hospital environment.
    • Ongoing expert-level practice in clinical laboratory practice at a busy clinical service laboratory.
    • Excellent liaison and collaborative skills.
    • Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Punctual and flexibility towards work deadlines and commitments made.
    • Ability to lead and manage delegated tasks and small projects.
    • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, compassion and respect for diversity and applies ethical principles appropriately.
