    Chief Sub-Editor

    Role (Purpose of Position)

    To select, package and edit stories to facilitate the production of the Daily Graphic as well as appropriate content for its website for the realisation of GCGL's corporate objectives within the framework of the company's policies and work procedures.

    Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)

    • Liaise with the Marketing and Sales Department and collect all dummies for each day's production of the Daily Graphic, prepare and distribute dummies for the publication of the Daily Graphic
    • Select stories that are relevant, educative and entertaining for vibrant content that will appeal to our readers at Editorial Conference for discussion and approval prior to the publication of the Daily Graphic to ensure the retention and increased readership of the paper.
    • Edit stories, write engaging headlines and ensure that captions are well written in accordance with the house style of the GCGL before the production of the Daily Graphic each day.
    • Supervise staff on the Sub Desk to ensure that all stories/copy and articles for the Daily Graphic are proofread and corrections effected before pages are handed over to the Night Editor for the production of the paper.

    Qualification Required & Experience

    • 1st Degree in Communication/Journalism Studies with six (6) years' relevant work experience

    Skills/Competencies required:

    • Good sense of news and keen eye for detail.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong computer literacy skills.
    • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
    • Strong business skills.
    • Strong digital journalism and social media skills
    • Strong writing skills
