    Country Manager

    Core purpose of the role

    • To take full responsibility for the general management of the designated African regional country, ensuring the set business targets and priorities are met in line with the business practices and that country's relevant legislation to ensure the sustainability, improved profitability and growth of the integrated Lease business within the designated regional country.

    Key deliverables and outputs
    Strategic/Financial

    • Grow a profitable fleet size annually by both finding new customers and growing current customers.
    • Diversify the customer base to minimise the negative impact and risk of loss of any business as well as maximise our possible market share in that country.
    • Lead and support the sales team in identifying and targeting high-potential customers and their key decision makers in corporate, governmental and SMME markets.
    • Ensure all current and future business operations comply with local legislation, including any set environmental laws.
    • Provide input into strategy sessions with Executive: Africa
    • Ensure improved cash flow for Regional country with detail involvement in cash collections, strategically plan cash requirements and source funding in the local markets
    • Complete and sign off on high level risk assessment quarterly
    • Ensure fiduciary, legislative and statutory compliance as an accountable officer of designated regional country
    • Review and provide input into quarterly board packs for designated country
    • Prepare and jointly with the Executive sign off of major tenders

    Operational

    • Manage and oversee the entire country's business operations and functions in order to meet the set financial targets.
    • Drive and implement the set marketing plan aimed at maximising results on any marketing and brand awareness opportunities in that country.
    • Ensure all business operations and team members strive to exceed all customer expectations at any interface.
    • Ensure that monthly budgeted profitability targets are achieved and exceeded
    • Ensure budgeted monthly targets on utilisation are achieved or exceeded
    • Stakeholders (internal & external customers, suppliers, shareholders, communities)
    • Continuously grow and maintain constructive and transparent relationships with suppliers to enable Avis Budget Rent Lease to best serve customer needs.
    • Identify and actively participate in relevant business forums and industry associations in order to network and influence key decision makers, promoting Avis Budget Rent Lease
    • Oversee the negotiation and structuring of a mutually beneficial SLA between the supplier and Avis Budget Rent Lease
    • Manage in-country relationships with external directors
    • The successful candidate will be appointed as the internal director of the company in Ghana

    • Provide clear direction and decisive leadership to that Country's team, ensuring all team members are aligned to the goals and have a clear purpose in their work.
    • Set clearly defined performance standards / targets for team members, holding them accountable to achieve these and providing support and guidance where needed.
    • Create and maintain a constructive atmosphere within the team, engaging and motivating team members to always give their best, while respecting any areas of diversity (whether areas of expertise, cultural, gender, age, background, etc.).
    • Staff that Country's team with the required human resources, considering the current and future relevance of any job as well as the most suitable ways in which to place or replace any vacancies.
    • Ensure team members adhere to set business policies and procedures, emphasising the importance of general discipline at work and objectively correcting and handling any deviations as they arise.
    • Set the example to the team and deliver on the employee value proposition by leading the team and the business in line with the Avis budget Leadership Competency Framework
    • Support and encourage team members to drive their own individual development plans in order to further grow as professionals in their jobs.

    Internal and External Stakeholders

    • The role requires close engagement and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.

    Internal Stakeholders

    • AVIS Executives: Africa Growth, Business Development and Sub-licensees, functional support teams, Avis legal and property teams, Special Investigations, Sales team

    External Stakeholders

    • Suppliers, customers and other relevant regional country stakeholders,

    Academic Qualifications
    Essential:

    • BComm or other relevant tertiary degree/diploma
    • Grade 12 (with 15-17yrs experience in a General Management Role)

    Advantageous:

    • Post Graduate Qualification (Business Management etc.)

    Work Experience
    Essential:

    • Minimum 10 years relevant finance/operations business experience
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in General Manager role (with Grade 12)
