Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Planning:

• Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the company's business goals in the Kenyan shipping industry.
• Forecast staffing needs, plan for talent acquisition, retention, and development.
• Address HR challenges and opportunities specific to the shipping sector in Kenya.

Recruitment and Onboarding:

• Lead the recruitment process for all levels of employees, including seafarers and shore-based staff.
• Collaborate with hiring managers to define job requirements and create job descriptions.
• Conduct interviews, evaluate candidates, and make hiring recommendations.
• Ensure a smooth onboarding process for new employees in compliance with Kenyan labor laws.

Employee Relations:

• Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
• Manage employee inquiries, conflicts, and grievances.
• Conduct investigations as necessary and propose appropriate resolutions.
• Ensure strict compliance with Kenyan labor laws and industry regulations.

Performance Management:

• Establish and implement performance appraisal processes.
• Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance improvement.
• Assist in developing and tracking performance goals and objectives.
• Oversee disciplinary actions when needed.

Training and Development:

• Identify training needs and coordinate employee development programs.
• Collaborate with department heads to create comprehensive training plans.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and make adjustments as required.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Administer compensation and benefits programs in accordance with Kenyan industry standards.
• Ensure competitive compensation packages within the Kenyan shipping industry.
• Stay updated on compensation and benefits trends specific to Kenya.

Compliance and Reporting:

• Ensure compliance with local labor laws, including Kenyan labor regulations and maritime requirements.
• Maintain accurate HR records and documentation.
• Prepare and submit reports as required by Kenyan authorities.

HR Administration:

• Manage the HR team and departmental budgets.
• Oversee the maintenance of HRIS (Human Resources Information System) software.
• Continuously assess and enhance HR processes and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Proven experience as an HR Manager in the Kenyan shipping or maritime industry.
• In-depth knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and regulations applicable to the shipping sector.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Proficiency in HRIS software.
• Certification as a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Kenya is advantageous.
