    Assistant Counsellor

    Summary:

    • The Assistant Counsellor reports directly to the Head of Counselling and Director of Administration and will be available to students and on-site (on campus) Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5 pm and Saturday when there is a need.

     
    Roles and Responsibilities

    The Assistant Counsellor assists the Counselling Unit by

    • Providing individual counselling services for students
    • Working with parents, when necessary, in providing parenting advice and developing behaviour plans and disciplinary strategies at home.
    • Working with teachers in developing behaviour plans for students with behavioural challenges in the classroom.
    • Assisting in helping new students in the transition to the school via check-ins with them and their teachers.
    • Protect the confidentiality of information received in the counselling relationship according
    • Referring students with problems to appropriate program specialists or community agencies
    • Planning and executing training programs and presentations to small groups of classes and staff in areas related to the psychological and general well-being of staff and students.
    • Sitting in lessons in order to understand the challenges of students identified with having learning difficulties.
    • Any other duties that may be assigned
       

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of master’s degree in Counselling/Clinical/Educational Psychology
    • Licensed to provide psychological services in Ghana (GPC license number)
    • A year of experience in practice.
       

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of skill in using computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Good critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and decision-making skills.

    Clinical Facilities Coordinator

    Summary:

    • The post holder shall act as a liaison between faculty, students, and clinical sites.
    • He/ She shall coordinate the implementation of all Clinical Sciences Courses and examinations so as to ensure the smooth and successful academic teaching and assessment of all the courses.
    • He/ She shall develop and arrange for Clinical placement for students throughout the respective regions and surrounding areas and other matters as assigned in support of the mission of the school.

     
    Job Description:

    •  Creating and updating the teaching timetable for the courses, including getting teaching faculty to fill teaching slots on the timetable in collaboration with the Heads of Disciplines
    •  Distributing approved timetables to the students in a timely fashion before the start of their rotations
    •  Ensuring the appropriate Log books and CRABS are made available for students at the start of each rotation.
    •  Reminding faculty of their teaching periods and finding alternative teaching staff whenever any gap is envisaged.
    •  Liaise with the Clinical Coordinators of the various Healthcare Facilities to ensure the smooth and successful Clinical Rotations of students visiting such facilities.
    •  Periodically visiting the students at the clinical sites to ensure the rotations are progressing smoothly.
    •  Time tabling for Clinical and Community health examinations, coordinating with teaching facilities and field hospitals to provide cases for examinations.
    •  Request for Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) questions and answer keys from Faculty members.
    •  Forward OSCE examination questions for moderation by the discipline units and External Assessors and /or Examiners and to send moderated papers to the Vice President (ASA).
    •  Ensure that final questions are printed and sealed by the day of exams.
    •  In collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator(s) arrange all logistics to support the conduction of clinical examinations in the health care facilities. • Scheduling for Community Health Care trips and District rotations for students.
    •  Making logistical arrangements for students’ District rotations, including transportation, accommodation, feeding, etc.
    •  Any other activities that will ensure the implementation of the Clinical Courses offered by the Institution.


    Qualifications

    • Minimum of First Degree – Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB); MPH would be an advantage.
    • Previous work experience in a Ghanaian healthcare facility is required
    • Proficiency with Office systems including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

    Faculty Application

    Job Description
    The responsibilities for this position will include some or all of the following:

    • Teaching, student advising, research and creative activities, service and community extension, and administrative responsibilities.
    • Your responsibilities may include involvement in off-campus, evening or weekend duties, as well as student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts. Because teaching is the fundamental responsibility of each faculty member, all faculty members must participate in this activity.  
    • Prepare and deliver regular lectures to students
    • Conduct seminars, tutorial and laboratory sessions (where required)
    • Guide class discussions, whilst encouraging debate and feedback amongst students
    • Prepare and mark students’ assignments, essays, and providing one-on-one feedback on academic performance where necessary
    • Mark examination scripts and return grades within 24 hours of examination as specified in College regulations
    • Carry out research and produce publications or other research outputs, in line with personal objectives and specific field of knowledge/interest
    • To assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work, and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement, and class attendance
    • Participate in course/degree setting committees, curriculum revision, and academic planning
    • Maintain own continuing professional development
    • Manage research budgets
    • Attend and speak at conferences and seminars
    • Prepare bids for funding for departmental research projects
    • Perform administrative duties as required
       

    About You

    • A PhD/MPhil in one or more of the biomedical fields of: Anatomy; Biochemistry; Immunology and Microbiology; Pathology; Pharmacology; Physiology
    • Demonstrated experience in teaching one or more of the biomedical sciences to medical students and knowledge of the structure of a medical curriculum
    • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to health
