    Assistant Counsellor

    Summary:

    • The Assistant Counsellor reports directly to the Head of Counselling and Director of Administration and will be available to students and on-site (on campus) Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5 pm and Saturday when there is a need.

     
    Roles and Responsibilities

    The Assistant Counsellor assists the Counselling Unit by

    • Providing individual counselling services for students
    • Working with parents, when necessary, in providing parenting advice and developing behaviour plans and disciplinary strategies at home.
    • Working with teachers in developing behaviour plans for students with behavioural challenges in the classroom.
    • Assisting in helping new students in the transition to the school via check-ins with them and their teachers.
    • Protect the confidentiality of information received in the counselling relationship according
    • Referring students with problems to appropriate program specialists or community agencies
    • Planning and executing training programs and presentations to small groups of classes and staff in areas related to the psychological and general well-being of staff and students.
    • Sitting in lessons in order to understand the challenges of students identified with having learning difficulties.
    • Any other duties that may be assigned
       

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of master’s degree in Counselling/Clinical/Educational Psychology
    • Licensed to provide psychological services in Ghana (GPC license number)
    • A year of experience in practice.
       

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of skill in using computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Good critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and decision-making skills.
