    Chief Geologist – Resource Evaluation(13351)

     ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • The Chief Geologist – Resource Evaluation is accountable for providing reliable Mineral Resource models for business planning purposes by maintaining and improving systems of work that will ensure integrity of base data, application of appropriate grade and tonnage estimation methods, and appropriate documentation of the entire process.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    General

    • Performs activities with minimal supervision.
    • Operates in accordance with the company values, policies, standards and procedures.
    • Proficient in a wide range of Resource modelling and geostatistical methods. Exposure to exploration practices, ore deposit development techniques and mine geology practices.
    • Has an in-depth knowledge of international Resource and Reserve codes.
    • Has exposure to  in risk assessment, contractor management, budgeting & project management.
    • Provides appropriate supervision, coaching and performance management for direct reports.
    • Fosters a positive team environment.

    Opportunity Identification

    • Applies experience in Resource modelling to identify improved methods of estimation to bring increased accuracy to Resource models.
    • Reviews Resource models for upside opportunity and risk and either addresses these or informs appropriate disciplines.
    • Assists in the development of Blue Sky models to identify future opportunity

    Effective Planning

    • Reviews LOM plans relative to Resource models and determines risk/opportunity in the plan.
    • Schedules work to meet planning requirements.
    • Ensures that appropriate Resource standards are met, both internally and for reporting codes.
    • Coordinates programmes in collaboration with colleagues and other internal stakeholders to ensure optimal utilisation of available resources.

    Environmental Superintendent(20775)

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • The Environment Superintendent is accountable for determining the appropriate operational methodologies and procedures and managing their implementation. This also requires the continuous investigation and evaluation of new methodologies and procedures, to ensure operational improvements.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Establish the necessary Environmental processes and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, including Operational Readiness
    • Provide unequivocal Environmental planning data to enable the quarterly updates of the rolling 18-month plan to be produced on time.
    • Develop the annual Environmental cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium term and Life of Mine (LoM) business plans
    • Deliver the work of the Environmental function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs
    • Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the Environmental department and with own Environmental team regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development

    Qualification

    Experience 

    • At least 5 years’ experience in the environmental discipline in the mining industry, with knowledge and experience of statutory approvals, environmental management and environmental management systems, including ISO 14001.
    • Field experience and demonstrated ability in environmental management, monitoring, planning and assessment and reporting.
    • Experience of engaging with external and internal stakeholders, and in particular positive regulator engagement (preferably with Ghana EPA).
    • A sound working knowledge of the environmental law of Ghana and all permitting processes is needed.

    Closure Manager(13984)

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • The Closure Manager is accountable for implementing closure projects at Obuasi. This role will include providing technical and project management of all involved disciplines to deliver the closure projects on time and on budget as well as progressing and updating the site’s integrated closure planning and implementation in compliance with the AGA Closure Planning Standard and the approved Obuasi Reclamation Plan and the internal Obuasi Closure Plan. The role will also include a requirement for stakeholder engagement, particularly with regulators and communities, and regulatory reporting.
    • This role will help build capacity in closure planning skills among all disciplines on site and assist sites to integrate closure activities into their daily operations as applicable. This role will also ensure a collegiate environment with discipline functional heads at a business unit, regional and corporate level.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Achieve the annual safety target as set by the MD for area of accountability

    • Work closely with technical specialist of levels to update and amend the closure plan and related cost as appropriate
    • Facilitate, coordinate and manage closure-related stakeholder (internal & external) engagement and communication commensurate to the life of mine
    • Socialize the closure planning requirement at a site and stakeholder level.
    • Manage risk identification and corrective action processes to ensure the plan and implementation is adjusted accordingly
    • Provide project progress report to management, including risk and opportunities
    • Provide constant feedback to direct manager and management team pertaining to critical issues, risks and considerations
    • Negotiate contracts for services provided for closure activities in accordance with applicable policy
    • Perform the role of Contract Representative to monitor all aspects of contractor performance and address any performance and contract compliance issues in area of accountability
    • Monitor the performance of contractors/consultants to ensure the required outcomes are achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Develop and manage the monthly budget for the closure plan and perform regular cost analysis and cost control exercises to stay within the budget and timing for the closure plan and in accordance with submissions and commitments made to the EPA.
    • Manage and monitor implementation packages in accordance with closure targets in terms of the reclamation plan/schedule, success criteria and performance indicators.
    • Continuously identify opportunities to reduce cost or improve the cost efficiency of the closure plan
    • Review compliance e to laws and AGA standards and commitments, review performance against objectives and targets
    • Identify all environmental risk and opportunities and provide and/or oversee the provision of quarterly updates regarding the control measures set out in order to address these.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • University Degree in Mining or Civil Engineering or Environmental / Earth / Natural Resources management related sciences
    • Additional qualification in project management would be advantageous

    Experience

    • 8 to 10 years’ experience in the mining industry, of which at least 3 should have been at a managerial level.
    • Proven experience in multi-disciplinary project management and reporting.
    • Experience in practical, pragmatic and business-oriented solution identification based on specific site characteristics.
    • Field experience (preferably in Africa) and demonstrated ability in analysis, design, planning and implementation of large scale civil earthworks projects.
    • Proven experience in managing a team, contractors and consultants
    • Proven experience of engaging with external and internal stakeholders
    • Experience in developing or implementing integrated mine closure plans inclusive of biophysical, social and human resources aspects for all stages of mine life from exploration or prefeasibility through to mine closure

    Technical Competencies

    Closure Officer(20774)

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    This role is accountable for the implementation of the Obuasi mine’s closure and rehabilitation plan which involves:

    • The preparation and review of closure cost estimates and closure project bill of quantities
    • Managing contractors, undertaking closure works to ensure AGAG maintain the environmental, legal and social licence to operate Obuasi Mine
    • Preparation/review of Obuasi mine Liability Estimates (LE) for inclusion in the annual AGAG financial report
    • The Closure Officer will also be required to assist with closure and rehabilitation implementation, incident reporting, closure financial reporting, integrating closure estimates with business plan model for Obuasi Mine.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Implement relevant reclamation programmes as directed by management
    • Maintain knowledge of local environmental issues as well as review and validate closure cost estimate and ensure compliance to closure plan/objectives
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to enable the business to meet its legislative and internal requirements.
    • Periodically update the closure cost estimate in accordance with regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure contractor construction and laydown areas are properly managed and decommissioned prior to their de-mobilization from site
    • Supervise demolition and rehabilitation contractors to achieve zero incidents and ensure work is completed within budget and scope
    • Assist in planning for the required environmental inspections and audits
    • Undertake inspections of mining, processing, engineering and project sites across the mine to ensure compliance with legislation and AGA environmental management standards
    • Prepare quarterly closure cost review showing cashflow movements for the period.
    • Prepare Note for the Record on periodic changes or cash flow movements in the closure cost estimate
    • Supervise Third party review of the closure cost estimate as and when required.
    • Prepare quarterly reclamation reports
    • Prepare annual completion report for inclusion into the annual environmental report
    • Assist with the management of environmental rehabilitation projects and contractor management as required by senior management
    • Maintain a database of all surface infrastructure and land disturbance on-site
    • Review and update ISO 14001 procedures and policies as and when necessary
    • Assist with ISO 14001 system and process audits
    • Implement incident management procedures including emergency response, reporting, clean up and rehabilitation
    • Facilitate environmental incident investigations
    • Implement recommended incident mitigation and preventative action plans
    • Implement and maintain environmental education awareness programmes
    • Provide environmental inductions and awareness training to employees, visitors and contractors
    • Conduct in-house environmental impact assessments
    • Provide expertise and guidance regarding environmental permit requirements for contractors
    • Manage the internal environmental permitting processes
    • Update the closure cost estimate with closure cost of new infrastructure constructed on site

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • Tertiary qualification in the field of Environmental / Natural Resources Management, Quantity Survey or Civil engineering qualification.

    Experience 

    • Minimum of 5 years’ environmental management experience working in the mining or related construction environments
    • Field experience in managing earthworks.
    • Experienced working with ISO4001 or similar Environmental Management Systems

    Technical Competencies

    • Executioe user, AutoCAD and Civil 3D user

    Electrical Technician - Winders(14180)

    ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

    • The Electrical Technician - Winders reports to the Electrical Supervisor - Winders and is accountable for all maintenance both low and medium voltage, installations, and repairs on all winder electrical components, carryout weekly, monthly, annual, and statutory critical task and ensure planned maintenance is executed in compliance to Government of Ghana laws and AGA standards, safety, and environmental requirement.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Work compliantly with the requirement of Government of Ghana Agencies, environmental, health & safety legislation and AGAG regulation
    • Accept personal responsibility for his own health and safety and that of every mine worker affected by his work
    • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
    • Monitor general physical condition of winder Electrical assets and report.
    • Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
    • Provide on the job support to the winder electrical supervisor, where appropriate.
    • Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of winder Electrical equipment as per requirements.
    • Identify, communicate, and implement potential cost reduction initiatives
    • Propose cost savings projects.
    • Execute work in a timely manner; coordinate refurbishment work contractors to time plan, escalate real or
    • potential delays.
    • Monitor equipment performance and take proactive measures to address symptoms of potential failure.
    • Stop equipment from working if there exists a high risk or unsafe to be used.
    • Report directly to the Winder Electrical Supervisor on issues and identify and execute improvement projects.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualification

    • Minimum of Electrical Engineering Technician Part III or equivalent

    Experience 

    • Minimum of four (4) years relevant working experience in underground mining. Experience in Winder and Shaft will be an advantage
    • Familiarity with the Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health Safety and Technical) Regulation

    Technical Competencies

    • Fully literate and numerate 
    • Fully competent in electrical trade
