Methodology

• This student shall analyze data gathered over the past 3 years during the demonstration days to arrive at a description of farmers perceptions, lessons learned and willingness to adopt the innovative practices. Next, primary data shall be collected in northern Ghana to revisit the farmers who had participated during the demonstration days. With support of FERARI, the student shall be required to provide a clear study methodology including sampling procedure and sample size for this research.

Output

• At the end of the research, the student shall produce a report to FERARI on this research and extract the most important findings in a policy brief. The student would also be assisted to produce a research article that can be published in a scientific journal for our wider international audience.

Qualification

• An MPhil/MSc student in Agricultural economics. Applicant must have completed his/her course work and ready to start the research component. The applicant must demonstrate high analytical and data processing skills, especially with the use of statistical methodologies and Microsoft Excel.

Methodology

Methodology

• This student will produce briquettes with a briquetting machine in Kumasi or Tamale and test their technical features. With support of the Agronomist of FERARI, the student shall be required to provide a clear study methodology including the determination of required technical features of the briquettes, dentification of adhesives, production and testing of the
• Briquettes.

Methodology

• This student will analyze observed soil physical data from the seasons 2020, 2021 and 2022 on soil water properties. The student will have to produce a clear methodology to understand what is happening in the field in order to elucidate the negative correlation observed between the amount of rainfall and the observed yield in relation to fertilizer applied. Using crop and soil models might be integral part of the methodology.The student will receive assistance and supervision from the FERARI team during the internship.

• This student will assess the influence of climate on maize using the Light Interception and Utilization (LINTUL) crop model to estimate crop growth, potential (LINTUL-1) and water-limited (LINTUL-2) yields. The study area would be FERARI field trial locations for maize, and the student shall be required to produce a clear methodology for achieving the objectives. In the course of the internship, the student would receive assistance and supervision from the FERARI team.

Preferably, the applicant should be knowledgeable in regression, geostatistics, machine learning, and software packages such as R, Pix4D, QGIS, and Microsoft Excel.
