    Finance Intern

    Purpose of the Assignment

    • The aim of the internship is to provide support to the Finance Department.

    The roles and responsibilities are as follows;

    • Support transaction processing - receive and review all payments due by uploading the information
    • Support filing of all supporting documents
    • Send payment notifications and follow up on receipts and upload receipts
    • Provide support for the preparation of financial reports as needed
    • Record minutes of departmental minutes
    • Perform any other duties as assigned

    Consultant’s Profile

    The consultant should have:

    • A University degree in accounting or finance related field
    • Relevant experience in the public or private sector

    Competencies

    The intern should have the ability to:

    • Basic understanding of double entry book keeping,
    • Able to Analyse basic finance data
    • Ability to handle sensitive information in an appropriate manner, including maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
    • Ability to review invoices or other finance schedules and identify mistakes
    • Able to write clearly about finance related issues identified
    • Able to contribute to the improvement in process using experience and knowledge of financial processes
    • Excellent team spirit, presentation and interpersonal skills;
    • Strong sense of integrity and continuous demonstration of honesty, transparency and accountability
    • Excellent writing skills, command of written and spoken English including ability to document processes.
    • Must be self-confident and willing to learn
    • Prioritize work to meet goals and objectives within the acceptable timeframes.
    • Have excellent interpersonal skills
    • Handle stressful situations with ease and composure
    • Have commitment to principles of Women’s rights and gender equality
    • Demonstrate commitment to AWDF’s values of feminist leadership, accountability, diversity, respect and solidarity.

AWDF through institutional capacity building and programme development seeks to build a culture of learning and partnerships within the African women’s movement. The vision of AWDF is for African women to live in a world in which there is social justice, equality and respect for women’s human rights. To this end, our mission is to mobilise financial resources to support local, national and regional initiatives led by women, which will lead to the achievement of this vision. AWDF funds women's groups across Africa working in the areas of Women’s Human Rights, Political Participation, Peace Building, Health and Reproductive Rights, HIV/AIDS and Economic Empowerment. To date AWDF has granted over $26.2 million to 1,200 women's organisations in 42 African countries. AWDF’s grants range from U$1,000- U$50,000, and multi-year grants of up to $120,000 can be made to grantees engaged in strategic work.
