Chemical Handler at The OmniGroup

JOB PURPOSE:

• Mix and handle chemicals, record information and observations relating to the mixing process, troubleshoot issues with equipment and assist in process improvement initiatives and the work plan development process to enhance efficiency and productivity.

DUTIES:

• Plans conducts and supervises all chemical handling operations following environmental, health and safety best practices for receipts and deliveries of chemicals.
• Ensure chemical related permits such as environmental permit and License to transport hazardous chemicals for the facility are valid and up to
• Prepare and submit Environmental Management Plan, Annual Environmental reports and Quarterly Environmental Monitoring Returns to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of our regulatory requirements.
• Assist with Quarterly Ambient Air and Noise monitoring for respective sampling points
• Sample Liquid chemicals during receipt and after transfer operations.
• Conduct physical analysis (Appearance, pH, Temperature etc.) on samples taking from chemical product such as MEG, Methanol and Sodium metabisulphite solution as quality control measure prior delivery.
• Set up, operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Conduct regular training on the elements of Hazard communication, safe chemical transfers, chemical re-packaging, loading, and unloading of chemicals through weekly toolbox talk and safety meetings.
• Assist with daily workplace inspection, conducting risk assessments of chemical operations, PPE compliance, workplace incident and environmental hazard reporting.
• Pallet all the chemicals as per the requirements
• Label chemicals per its specifications and stack them according to the layout of the warehouse.
• Undertake any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

INTERNAL RELATIONS:

• Maintain contacts with departmental and other line managers at all locations on matters relating to the business.

EXTERNAL RELATIONS:

• Maintain contacts with company’s clients where necessary through regular calls and response to emails to identify and address their needs promptly.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR ASSETS:

• Has responsibility for the management of unit’s budget
• Has responsibility for managing the company’s client’s database and tracking information.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Degree / HND in Business Administration or its equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years work experience in a similar position.
• Hands on experience from the chemical industry will be an added advantage
• Experience in working with cranes and forklifts

TECHNICAL:

• Ability to compute decimals and fractions to determine percentages of chemicals to be mixed for new solutions or added to existing solutions.
• Ability to use various meters and gages for testing and scales for weighing chemicals.
• Basic knowledge of a chemical laboratory environment
• Ability to comply with health, safety and quality regulations/protocols including wearing of Personal protection gear (PPEs)
• Creative troubleshooting skills
